Willow Fork Country Club, Katy, TX

Great course, well kept and not crowded.

First, this course was not opened in 2007 as the bio suggests. It was opened long before that (early 1990s). Second, I do not believe it was designed by Jay Reviere personally although his firm may have had something to do with it.

Originally, it had awful bermuda greens like 419 or something. However, in the late 2000s it was redone with Tif Eagle and the greens are very good. The bunkers were redone around that time, too, so this course, in spite of some aesthetic challenges with the power lines, is very playable.

Unfortunately, in 2017 or 2018, CBigg LLC, a Chinese holding company apparently out of Hong Kong, bought the club and ended up ruining one of the best tennis teaching facilities in the Houston area. Numerous nationally-ranked juniors came out of this program but due to lack of payment / late payment to the tennis staff of their share of the club dues, the best instructors left. The remaining tennis staff is riddled with a few terribly unfriendly folks.

Anyway, the feel of this club is pretty redneck. Lots of hillbilly-types so you'll hear blaring country music on the course and a lot of hootin' and hollerin' around the club. If that's your thing, go for it. But no one's gonna confuse Willow Fork with River Oaks.

Lastly, the restaurant and bar offerings are pretty weak. Poor menu, to say the least, and no real bartender so if you know how to make the drink you want, you better speak up. That probably isn't really a concern here, though, since I'd wager most of the locals drink light beer or Jack and Coke. And if you smoke you'll love the men's locker room. Actually, if you go into the men's locker room, you're smoking whether you want to or not.
