The 9-hole "Vineyard Valley" course at the Vineyard Valley Golf Club facility in Pomfret Center, Connecticut features 3,033 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 36. Designed by Gus Loos, the Vineyard Valley golf course opened in 1996.
Sunday July 10th, 2011. My first impression was this is going to be a billy goat ride. I was so wrong. The way the course is laid out, there really is not a lot of ups and down. The scenery is spectacular. The landscape from every hole is very picturesque, and you could make post cards from the views. The husband and wife team of Eric and Amie do a top scale job. The finishing holes 7,8, and 9 make for a great ending for a club championship. The views from 7 and 8 are all downhill, but they can bite you! An the finishing hole is Sawgrass in New England. If you are in the northeast sector of Connecticut, it's a must play. You want to play this hidden track.
I've been playing golf for 11 years and have been a member at 3 different clubs. Playing golf at the Vineyard makes you feel like you're playing in your backyard with family members. The reason for that is that owners Eric and Amy treat everyone that plays there like family and that feeling carries to its members. I've recently become a member at the Vineyard and have met quite a few of the members and have a group that I play with on a daily basis. I'm having more fun playing golf (by the way my handicap has dropped six shots in the last month with the help of my playing partners) than any other time in 11 years. Eric is very knowledgeable in helping you with club and ball selection, and even though the club is nothing fancy Eric gets the most out of it by by thinking out of the box. Eric is a good cook (I know about cooking being an owner of a local restaurant)and one of the most people friendly owners I've ever met. If you want to play the best golf course in the area this is not it, but if you want the best value, a challenging course because of the elevation changes, a great friendly atmosphere and don't like a long wait between shots, then join as a member and have a blast playing golf. Eric is making some improvements by adding bunkers on the 8th hole and added a covered bridge after the 9th hole. After the round have a beer or a glass of wine and relax after the round while playing a game of pool.
