Our Favorite Dallas Ft. Worth Golf Courses

The Dallas-Fort Worth metro area encompasses over 6 million people, making it the fourth largest metro area in America. The area has also long been known as a hub for golf for locals and visitors alike. If you are planning a trip to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, these are 10 courses that will satisfy any golfer. 


Tierra Verde Golf Club

Located in Arlington, the Tierra Verde Golf Club provides one of the most scenic and well-maintained courses in the region. However, be advised that this is a challenging course and may not be one for everyone. Tierra Verde also has history, being Texas' first municipal course. This verified Audubon Signature Sanctuary course challenges golfers with a variety of sand and water hazards, native trees and a challenging layout nestled between beautiful scenery.

The Texas Star Golf Course was designed by Keith Foster to challenge golfers' strategic thinking. The course features elevation changes typical of Texas hill country, and also uses the naturally wooded areas as a hazard. In addition, Hurricane Creek features prominently on several holes and will force golfers into accurate shots if they want to avoid penalties. As long as you can stay on the fairways, Texas Star provides a challenging but refreshing course in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. 

 

 


Iron Horse Golf Course

Iron Horse Golf Course has received numerous accolades for this Dick Phelps' designed course. Noted for using the natural rolling hills, hardwood groves and two different creeks to build a natural course that will challenge any golfer. The course also stays true to its name with numerous railway memorabilia, including the three caboose cars which serve as restroom facilities.

Tangle Ridge Golf Course has long been considered one of Texas' best public courses. Another course that uses the natural elevation changes to create a challenging course, Tangle Ridge also uses numerous tree lined fairways to give golfers the feeling of a day in nature while attempting to beat par. Golfers also appreciate the reasonable green fees and the generally design that, while challenging, doesn't seek t punish players. 


Dallas Cowboys Golf Club

The Dallas Cowboys Golf Club would be a unique course anywhere, as it is the only NFL-themed course in existence. However, rather than only being a sacred shrine to the gridiron, this Grapevine, TX course provides one of the best games of golf in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Designed by award-winner Jeff Brauer, the course is renown for providing perhaps the most well-kept course in the state. Indeed, pristine conditions are to be expected on this hill course. Though more expensive than the other courses on this list, the Dallas Cowboys Golf Club provides a one-of-a-kind golfing experience. 


Tenison Park Golf Course

Tenison Park Golf Course houses of the older courses in the region with its Highlands course. The Highlands course is a champions caliber course that was redesigned in 2001 by PGA Tour professional D. A. Weibring with help from architect Steve Wolfard. Home to numerous lakes, bunkers and elevation changes, any golfer will find the Highlands course a challenging play. 


Stevens Park Golf Course

One of Dallas-Fort Worth's best known courses, Stevens Park is known by the nickname "Little Augusta" for good reason. A challenging and rolling course, Stevens Park is also conveniently located near downtown Dallas, making it a much easier trip for travelers staying in the city. The course itself is a mix of par-3, -4 and -5s, and its signature hole is the 16th hole. This par-5 requires golfers to hit a shot up and over a cliff face, providing a unique and difficult challenge that will punish any errant shot. 


The Bridges Golf Club

The Bridges Golf Club features a course designed by Jeffrey Baur Design and former Masters champion Fred Couples. Golfers will have to traverse numerous water hazards and sand trap on this course that rewards strategic shotmaking. The Bridges features large greens but don't be fooled by their size; they provide one of the more challenging putting experiences in the area. Though a little far from the central Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, this course is worth the drive for golfers visiting the area. 


Champions Circle Golf Club

Champions Circle is one of those rare courses that both provides a challenge without being so punitive to dissuade beginning golfers from having a fun day out. The fairways are wide in this course located in Fort Worth. Golfers' note the beautiful scenery with natural rolling hills, groves of trees and natural water hazards. The course also boasts a few elevated greens to provide a challenge to golfer's often overlooked short game. 

 

 


The Tribute Golf Club

The Tribute Golf Club sets itself apart from other courses in the area because of its novel layout. The course seeks to recreate a British links-style course in the heart of Texas. The course features numerous holes modeled after their more famous counterparts, including a recreations of St. Andrews 18th hole, "Hogan's Alley" at Carnoustie and the 5th hole at Royal Troon. The opportunity to play these holes and the unique theme of the course makes it a must-play course for any golfer in the area.
