Fantasy Golf Advice

By James Roland

It might not have the huge following that fantasy football has obtained, but fantasy golf offers some similar challenges and does force you to pay attention to the entire scoreboard in every PGA Tour event. And the season lasts longer than fantasy football, stretching out the drama. You pick the golfers you expect to win, then live and die with every drive, chip and putt. It's easy and fun, especially if you get involved with a few of your golfing buddies.

Getting started

Join an online fantasy league or with some friends. There are free leagues, and unlike fantasy baseball, you don't need to keep updating your team every day.

How to Play

Most leagues ask you to pick four or five players for each week's PGA Tour event and their combined scores will determine your success that week. Pick an online fantasy golf game and the website will walk you through registration, player selection and scoring.

Look at Past Performance

Because many golfers tend to do well at particular courses, do a little research and find out how your golfer has fared at that week's course. If he has a few top-10 finishes, keep him, and if he's missed the cut a few times recently, bench him.
