The second edition of the 3M Open kicks off this week, July 23-26, at the TPC Twin Cities in suburban Minneapolis. Defending champion Matthew Wolff returns to defend his title in a strong field that features Englishman Tommy Fleetwood playing his first PGA Tour event since the restart. Brooks Koepka, Bubba Watson, and Dustin Johnson have also committed to playing. Fleetwood and Wolff will also be competing in the 3M Open Compass Challenge, a charity 9-hole scramble held this Wednesday with Paul Casey and Will Gordon.
TPC Twin Cities
Tournament host TPC Twin Cities was designed by Arnold Palmer with consultation with Minnesota-native Tom Lehman to bring an elite course to the area. Opened in 2000, the course initially hosted the PGA Tour Champions event dubbed the 3M Championship from 2001 until 2018, when the event jumped to the PGA Tour under its current name. The layout is a pristine parkland course that uses smart bunkering and plenty of water to create a championship caliber course. The short game will be very important, especially wedges and short irons, and the winner may well go to the golfer who with the best approach shots.
