Crazy Things to Do in Las Vegas

By Sarah Dray

It doesn't get any crazier than Las Vegas. Whether you need some thrills after a weekend of playing golf or you simply want to add some adventure to a trip, Las Vegas is definitively the city to go to. From unique thrill rides to a dinner you'll never forget, getting crazy in Las Vegas will give you something to talk about at your next game.

Try the Stratosphere Thrill Rides

Not for the faint of heart or those with a fear of heights, the Stratosphere tower offers visitors three of the scariest rides you'll ever encounter. Big Shot wins the top spot for being the highest thrill ride in the world. Located on a platform 981 feet up in the air, riders are shot straight upwards for an additional 160 feet, experiencing a force of 4Gs, before they free fall at incredible speeds. Insanity: The Ride is a mechanical arm that holds six seats and extends 64 feet over the edge of the tower, spinning passengers quickly at a 70 degree angle (face down). X-Scream is the ultimate teeter-totter, propelling riders head first over the edge. After a forward fall of 27 feet, riders are taken backwards before being sent forward again.

Have Dinner in the Air

Imagine having dinner 180 feet in the sky, sitting at a clear floating table. In Las Vegas, not even a crazy scenario like this is impossible. Dinner in the Sky is a two-hour experience that starts with a small reception with hors d'oeuvres and cocktails at a posh lounge. After some small talk, up to 22 guests are seated at a rectangular table, strapped down to chairs that look like racing car seats, and taken 180 feet high up in the air by a giant crane. Once there, chefs (who stand in a small hollow square in the center of the platform), prepare a two course dinner and serve it to the guests. The chairs can rotate, so guests have an almost perfect 360 degree view of the Las Vegas strip. The standard dinner package includes a 25-minute dinner, but there's also a sunset dinner that lasts 40 minutes. After returning to the ground, guests can relax at the lounge and have cocktails while waiting for their free souvenir photo.

Drive a Real Race Car

The Las Vegas Motor Speedway allows you to get behind the wheel of a real race car and take on the tracks at speeds of up to 145 mph. While the Speedway is home to races and auto shows throughout the year, those who want more action can join the Mario Andretti Indy car racing school for a one-of-a-kind driving lesson. After technical instruction, visitors can choose to ride as passengers and experience speeds of up to 180 mph or drive at 150 mph for an eight-minute session around the track.
