Golf Tips - Four Set-Up Fundamentals Common to all Great Putters

By Bob Wyatt

When putting, remember to check these four set-up fundamentals:

  1. Putter face square to target line
  2. Eyes over target line
  3. Shoulders square (parallel) to target line
  4. Hands vertically under shoulders

There can still be a lot of individual style and comfort within these parameters. These four set-up fundamentals are common to all great putters, and will help insure your success. *

Sidehill Lies When the ball is below your feet adjust for the change in your arc and shift in your weight
Four Sidehill Lie Effects The four sidehill lies effect the flight of the ball the same way the ball would roll on the ground, so if you are on a sidehill lie above the ball if you were to roll a ball in that direction it would roll off to the right and that is what your ball flight will do
Bad Bunker Lies When faced with a bad bunker lie you need to close the clubface slightly so that you can dig into the bunker and get under the ball but most importantly don't try to do too much with the shot, all these shots will come out with over spin and release so you need to play to the fat part of the green
