Supposedly ranked one of the nicest (4th or 5th) golf courses in the state of West Virginia, Locust Hill lives up to its hype, but just barely. This course is definately nice, well maintained, and provides for some challenging holes. Although there weren't many unique holes, there were several with carrys over water or marsh that made the course interesting. Unique...no.....fun..yes. The greens were fair, true, and a bit fast but very manageable. A big drawback is the scenery. This area is located amongst some beautiful mountains and rivers, yet the course is located directly in the middle of a developement. A nice developemnt, but houses surround every hole nonetheless, and you often walk in between or along side houses to get to the next hole. The other setback were the golf snob players. Although the staff itself is friendly the group of member players that play regulary at 2pm on Thursdays were not. Elite jerks, even the staff told me they don't really like them....so don't play on a Thursday afternoon. If your directly ahead of them.....forget it. They will hit into you and make you essentially wait for all of their 5..5somes to pass through. They do have logo balls, a huge plus for the logo ball collector like myself and the value it magnificent for the quality of the course. $21 to walk weekday twilight is absolutely wonderful, barring Thursday. I'd definately recommend coming here except for one day a week. Overall rating..A-

A pleasant course, nice natural layout, with no spectacular holes. The greens ,fairways, and tees were good and play seemed to move along nicely. It is a nice better than average golf course. It did have some deep rough,we spent a lot of time looking for balls in it. The fees are very fair.

I thoroughly enjoyed this course today. It is about 25-30 minutes drive from my home in Leesburg, VA and well worth the trip. The course is well maintained, nice scenery, lots of flowers in bloom, lots of water in play, several cool rock/boulder features, a few elevated tee boxes, greens that are challenging and roll true, friendly staff and very reasonable prices. There are a few homes on a few of the holes, but nothing too intrusive. My regular golf partner is my 9 year old son. We usually play at various courses in Loudoun County, VA where the courses charge full price or give a slightly reduced rate for a 9 year old. At Locust Hill, they do not charge for junior golfers. I wish more courses would follow their example. And, the green fees for adult golfers are very reasonable. The clubhouse is very modest, but if you go to play golf and not hang out in the clubhouse, it doesn't matter. They do have a nice outdoor pavilion right next to the clubhouse. All in all, I highly recommend this course for a pleasant, affordable and challenging round of golf. We will certainly be back to play here again.
