Okay, to start, fee was very reasonable and staff was friendly and helpful. But this was a TOUGH course. VERY HILLY and a long trek from greens to next hole. Also, bring LOTS of spare balls because you will lose most of them. DON"T EVEN TRY TO WALK THIS COURSE unless you have the endurance of an Olympian and legs of steel. If it is a rainy day and cart path only, forget it. I enjoyed the round but was exhausted by the end. I was glad to have the experience of playing it, but next time in town will find an easier course.

Fun course. Has some quirky holes but that's because it's built on a severe piece of land. Don't try to walk. Scenic and in pretty good shape.

This a mountain course with some very beautiful vistas. Some fairways are narrow lined with trees, some are open and some have water hazards. Be sure to take your camera, you will need it on the ride to the first tee.

Wow! Before my wife and I decided to play this course as we traveled thru WV I read all these reviews. All of the great comments about the course were true. However what impressed us the most was the people. The staff and the locals went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The course is a real challenge but enjoyable. The cost and hospitality is impossible to beat. We will schedule a round here everytime we travel through WV! Thanks!!!!!

Wow, what a surprise. We were not expecting much but what we found was a very nice course. The greens and fairways were very well maintained. We played Glade Springs the same weekend and I would put Brier Patch up with it anyday. For the money, I would choose Brier Patch every day. They layout is very good and some very fun holes. The 18th hole is one to remember...after you count that many strokes, how can you forget. I would deifnitely recommend to anyone looking for a very good course for a nominal price.

We played this course based on the website reviews and comments. It is worth playing. The employees are all very friendly and the cost to play is quite reasonable. This course features a good layout, although you really need to play it more than once because there are some blind shots. The greens are in very good condition, hold shots and putt well. The downside...the fairways could definitely be cut shorter, and many of the tee boxes are in questionable shape, but all-in-all it is a very challenging and fun course, and for the money is well worth it. I think this could become a great course with just a little better conditioning.

Take a won't regret

I recently visited family in WV and played this course. I loved it. I had played it back when it was Saddlebred and the changes in design and price were more than appealing. I appreciated the hospitality and the visit with the Pro, Phil Wiechman. Thanks
Hospitality at it's best...upon my return visit with my daughter. We had a great, relaxed time.

Man, I played this course when it was SaddleBug or something like that and I was "in the barrel" most of the time. It's better now without the reserved parking spaces that the previous owner had saved for him. I also got my food at the restaurant faster than the usual 45 minute wait when the first yahoo owned it. Jim Justice took a delapitated, water logged course, and made it into a gem, and right in Beckley, WV. Who would have thunk it? On second thought, I think I will take up ice hockey. I hear it's an up and coming sport in Phoenix, AZ

Nice course. Well maintained. Very difficult for a beginner. Has a few nice holes for scenery. A lot of water comes into play, as well as deep St. Andrews type bunkers with a high front lip. Fun course to play. Not really that expensive in terms of a public golf course.

This is what a Golf Course should be ALL ABOUT

My favorite Golf Course Hands down. To be a public, low-$-Rate course in the Beckley area....

Although you will use your driver several times. You'd better be able to use EVERY club in you arsenal, because if you honestly want to post a legitimate descent score. You've got to really use your skills at this Beautiful Course.

I rate it 4.5 out-of 5, but this is about as perfect as you can get.

(Just my 2 Cents)

Hidden Treasure

Last year I went on a golf trip to VA with some buddies. Along the way we stumbled on to the Brier Patch. We absolutely loved the course. Beautiful scenery, landscaping, and a variety of hole layouts made it a real pleasure for us. We are coming back this summer with this course being our destination. We also brought more players this time! Can't wait to get there! Make sure you bring a camera, there are lots of great shots to be taken, both golf and pictures!
