Poor management. In two leagues. Mens league on Tuesday's is overbooked with 60 players on 9 holes. Couples Friday night leagues allows 6 players per hole - creating 3 hour rounds +. Ranger and complaints to management were ineffective. Stay away from any leagues there.

The Meath course is another beautiful 9 at Ironwood. It's a nice change from Callow and Birr, in that it is more open than Callow, and less water hazards than Birr. Long hitters will probably like this course more, but I think the greens are sligthly more challenging all around than the other two courses, especially not knowing the contours the first time or two playing it. It definitely is a lot of up and down, and after walking 9 on Birr, finishing up with another 9 walking Meath did have me fatiguing on a warm day. After playing all 3 9's at Ironwood, it's almost hard to pick a favorite, as they all are unique, present there own challenges, and have some of the best scenery you will find on any course in the area.

This is my favorite new course in the area. It doesn't have the trees established yet, but it is a beautiful course. It's one of my top three in the state.

This is a challenging course with lots of hills and sand. For your first time out on this course, I would suggest trying to pair up with someone that has played it before (it will save you time). From the tee box, a few of the greens cannot be seen making the drive a complete blind shot and there are several shortcuts. This course definately has the best scenery of the courses that I have played on in Milwaukee.

Absolute best course in Milwaukee area for the money!

Ironwood golf course (all 27 holes) is, in my opinion, the best course in the Milwaukee area, and it only gets better when you pay the green fees. I usually play the Meath and Birr courses and love them more each time. The Meath course is more wide open on most shots than the Callow, with some generous landing pads for well hit shots. Two holes do threaten to swallow a miss-hit drive into some mature oak and beach trees, but a well placed poke will set up great approches. Power-hitters (which I'm not) will not find a lot of advantage over their buddies by crushing one out there; a few holes (#3, #4, and #9) allow easy-on-in-two for those who keep the ball well in play, and overlly long drives can even lead to worse problems than laying up (especially #8). Plenty of bunkers in the fairway and around the greens pose problems for wayward hitters, but don't overly punish by being too deep. Greens are generally moderate sized, not too big to threaten two-putts or too small to hit from the fairway. Some steep breaks and tiers make you work for every putt, but no slope is over-the-top unreasonable, like SO MANY other courses where the architech built a crazy green to compensate for a short or easy hole. This is a course where you have to be able to get the ball up. A few drives require at least 100 to 150 yds. of fly off the tee for a descent set-up, and a number of holes require an iron shot over creek, fairway bunkers, deep rough, etc. This course will chew up a beginner (and with lots of up and down terrain will wear them out too). But for a mid-80's hitter like me, you can have some really rewarding rounds on this nine. Click on the Birr course for my review there.
