Seattle is blessed with three pretty good municipal courses, and Jackson is the best of the three in terms of challenge and interesting layout. Yes, it can be slow, but it is usually not excruciatingly so. It now has a multi-level driving range. Always call ahead to make sure that course isn't booked by a group or the local school golf team. The club house is still crappy, but I think the city has plans to replace it one of these days. Hole #2 is the only real "nothing" hole; all of the others have at least some character to them. Holes 11, 12, and 13 are the "amen corner" of Jackson Park; all very exciting. Water on 5 separate holes will get your attention. Hole #1 is a real conundrum.

Jackson Park is a close second to W. Seattle in terms of difficulty. The pace is much better here on weekends than both W. Seattle and the VERY busy Jefferson Park. Generally speaking, Jackson drawls much better golfers than Jefferson does, but slow groups are still common on all three Seattle municipals. For many reasons, my group of friends enjoys playing Jackson the most. It's definitely more open than Jefferson and includes some water in play. All in all a very good municipal course with typical municipal conditions. Considered the driest of the three municipals, but in my opinion there are always a few drainage problem areas. A great course for under 35 dollars.

Busiest course in the state for several reasons. If it was terrible golf it would be a ghost town. It'll do...
It's sister in West Seattle is more charming with great downtown vistas and much easier to get on.

Very average Muni Course. Don't even attempt to play on the weekend.

pretty typical muni course. Does not have a range which is a negative, but it does have a nice big practice green. Course is adjacent to I-5 freeway so the front nine can be a bit noisy. Pace is slow but it's expected on muni courses. I recommend getting the Premier Card which gives you discounts on three of the Seattle's muni courses.

Some fun up and down action with decent pace.

Affordable Municiple Course in Seattle

I've played Jackson Park a few times over the years, including a few weeks ago. There aren't many sand traps, but a new pond adds some water hazards which makes shot selection more challenging and fun.

There's nothing special about this course, other than it's in the city and is fairly affordable. However, the low price draws large crowds. The day we played was cold and wet and our tee time was at 7:45 AM. Even with all of that, it was extremely crowded and it took us well over 5 hours to finish. There were also some drainage problems on a few fairways. One of my best tee shots of the day ended up plugging into the ground so bad that I almost couldn't find the ball.

But overall, it's nice to have this municiple course within the city limits.
