Course Reviews

Played this course earlier today, and its probably in the best shape of any course I have played so far this year. The greens were immaculate and rolled true as could be. Met the Head Pro and two of the assistants working in the shop and they could not of been friendlier. The course is difficult, make sure to play the appropriate tee boxes, because some holes are sneaky long like 12, all uphill. The range isn't very good, but they know this and give your complimentary range balls as a substitute. Was interested to hear that they now own Bull Run and Augustine (wiht Augustine closed til at least August for renovations). I will definately play again, and would recommend to all.

Extremely well maintained, tee boxes and fairways were practically perfect. Greens were slick and smooth. Definately one of the best in the northern VA area along with stonewall, cannon ridge, and raspberry falls. service was great, the head pro was driving around helping the ranger.

I was expecting great things from this course as I had read some stuff from a couple years ago saying how great it was. I was totally disappointed. First of all, when we paid our greens fees (full price of course), nobody mentioned that the greens had just been aerated the day before. No sign, nothing on the webpage, and we weren't even told until teeing off on the 1st hole. With the greens just aerated, it wasn't even really golf we were playing. On top of that, the range is horrible. Balls are old and probably 'flat' and you can't even hit woods except into a net 20 feet in front of you. Completely useless. Of course you had to hit off of mats and the mats were completely destroyed and falling apart. The entire course has that feeling of being wedged into a housing development with a great number of holes marked OB if you hit it even 5 yards left of the fairway because of people's backyards. We played on a rather hot day (about 90 degrees) and teed off at 8 am. We played until at least noon and not once did we see a beverage cart and all the coolers were empty on the course or barely trickling out. As for the course, it looked as if nobody had filled a divot in the past two years and the tee boxes looked like a WWI battlefield with all the pocks and unfilled divots. I wouldn't play here again if Osama Bin Laden was hiding in the woods off number 4 and all I had to do was hit him with my nine-iron to collect the 54 million reward. Good day.

Course is in fantastic shape and offers quite a challenge. Too bad most of the scenery here are single family homes and a baseball stadium. Great holes such as 4 and 18 are offset by the 10-12 stretch of what seem like 3 of the same holes in a row. Rates here are far too much when you can play Stonewall or Cannon Ridge for a comparable fee.

Need a Challenge

From the tips, this course is rated nearly as tough as Pebble Beach. Having played both, I found Pebble easier to score on. The course is really well-maintained and the variety of the hole design keeps you interested. There are no restroom facilities on the back nine and it's hard to understand why a course of this caliber bungled that one because the rounds sometimes stretch out to 5+ hours on a crowded weekend. Maybe it's the 600+ yard, par 5, finishing hole that slows things down. Overall, it's a terrific place to play and the green fees are reasonable for the experience provided.
