This is the best kept secret in VA. I live in MD and my golf buddies & I travel 1 1/2 hours to play here. The course is in superb shape. The staff is excellent and very friendly. You just can't beat the price for what you get in return.

One of the BEST Courses we have ever been to. We go at least once a year, wish we could make it up there more often. Course conditions are always GREAT. It is always a WONDERFUL experience - YOU MUST PLAY MATTAPONI

Simply one of my top 3 courses. Well worth the drive! Course has been immaculate all 5 times I've played there. The staff is great from the cart guys to the pro shop to the restaurant (food is good also). There are memorable holes all over the place. The course drains really well and the practice facility is more than adequate. This is a must play! Even when it's busy you feel all alone on all the holes. Like a golf movie sort of...they also give military discount.

What a fantastic course. I hit it en route from Myrtle Beach as it was relatively central to I-95 and Golf Digest ranked it highly. Even so, I was amazed at how great the course was. It is a beautiful layout, with great challenges, lots of blind shots and appropriate hazards. The greens were in good condition even though I played in March before the season started. When this course is in full swing it must be one of the most picturesque places I have played. I am going to make this an annual stop without hesitation.

We drove 80 miles this on Sunday 14th August to play this course, after two holes the clouds opened up with severe downpour and thunder in the area, we drove back to the club house to wait to see if it would clear after one hour still a major downpour. We decided to call it a day and went to check out a rain check, we were informed they do not give rain checks. The attitude of the management staff was completely un friendly and at this time I would not recommend this course. This might sound sour grapes but in todays market I think this service sucks.

My pals and I played this course for the first time on July 10 and found it an absolute delight.

Amenities - The clubhouse was well staffed and stocked and the restaraunt clean with some food deals. From the time I made our tee times on July 7, Christie was extremely friendly on the telephone and in person wehn we checked in. The cart being brought right to the car was great. Additionally, the attendant getting the clubs out and putting them on the cart was a great touch. This entire service made my friends and I feel like real VIP's. Additinally, the cart girl(s) were excellant. Many courses, they just drive by unless you flag them down. Not here, these young ladies would stop and wait on us to get done with the hole and would stay until we said we are good or just proceeded on our way. Again, an excellent touch.

Difficulty - It will challange golfers of all skill levels. Most of my buddies and are are low 20 handicappers. We really had to think. Several holes where you had to decide on driver vs. fairway wood off the tee or lay up vs go for it. Definately a course with some risk/reward holes.

Maintenance - The course was well taken care of. Fairways in excellent condition. I had never played on that type of grass (soysez, not sure how to spell or pronounce). The greens were outstanding. The ball would hold and they rolled true.

One minor complaint, some of the maintenance staff did not stop when passing by while we were making shots.

Scenery - What can I tell you. From the time you walk out of the clubhouse and look around, it is gorgeous. With so many courses being constructed right in the middle of house developments, it was a pleasure to play a course that was extremely beautiful. It also had my buddies and I all laughing when right in the middle of a putt on the first par 3, you could hear wild turkeys gobbeling in the woods behind us.

Value - We played on a weekday and it was $68.00. Our concern when deciding to play this course was would it be worth it. So many times we go to try a new course and leave feeling we were ripped off. When we got done we all decided that it was well spent money and in fact, are planning on making the trip here again later this summer or early fall.

Overall - If you want to play a course that is value for the money, you are treated like a VIP, get to play a nice course, with beautiful scenery and pleasant staff, then go play here.

Nice course, but over priced. Good game of golf, but a lot to desired from the staff. It's so beautiful out there, but not one happy employee.

A top-notch course that will challenge any skill level. Course is in great condition. Staff was very friendly and hepful. Pro-shop is a bit lacking, but does not detract from the overall experience. Maybe the best public course between Richmond and Fredericksburg.
