Despite negative feedback from local co-workers, my husband has golfed here once for business, and he took me a second time to give me a lesson. Although others in front of us were playing extremely slow, we were shadowed and harrassed by their marshall the entire time we were trying to golf. He had a comment about everything. He would temporarily disappear only to reappear behind us moments later only to nag us about something else. We have friends who live right on the course who are beginner golfers. They have been asking us to take them golfing there since they moved in for a casual introductory lesson. After our experiences, we will be taking them elsewhere.

The reason I am posting this now, is because my friend's husband, who lives on the course, just called to tell us the marshall over stepped his boundaries (literally) and enterred their property to criticize them on the type of dog shelter they have. Unbelieveable. I felt it was long overdue for me to finally post a review. Hopefully management will rectify this situation.

nice course gone bad under newer mgmt. golf etiquette is non existent. course maintainence has deteriorated. slow play is making it a dangerouse course. marshalls if present are inept. operation management is not customer orientated. went from one of my favorites to one I will not patronize.

Not a bad course. Great considering the cost $25 for 18 you can't beat it. The course was alittle rough we've been in a drought lately and the course looked it. Set up was good though some nice and challenging holes.

Probably the worst golf experience of my life. Play was pathetically slow, holding up three groups at a time, with no marshals on a Sunday afternoon. When we skipped a hole to get past the slow group, one of the players in that group sat in his cart directly in front of my tee box, then asked me to wait a minute. Also, two of my golf balls were picked up by other players. The course was in decent shape - we had a rain delay, and the course drained nicely. There were several blind tee shots with no directional flags, and the bunkers could have used more sand. I won't be playing this course again.

Greg- Greencastle

Though my drives did stay in the fairway for the most part, I agree with the last reviewers thoughts on the greens. I happen to be a descent "chipper" but couldn't keep anything on the greens. I felt as if I was chipping and putting on glass. The greens are mowed so low and every slope takes you off the green. The course is fairly open and from tee to green, I felt it was a fair course and in good shape. There are a number of "pretty" holes...especially the two par 3's on the back nine. It's the greens that may keep me off this course...but judge for yourself.

Poorly designed

If you like striping a drive right down the middle and finding your ball in the trees, rough, or OB, then this is the course for you. Seems that little to no shaping of the land was done here - many fairways are like the side of a steep hill. Several times I hit great drives that landed in the middle of the fairway that ended up in big trouble. In addition, the greens do not hold very well - much more than a wedge will bounce hard and off the back of the green. Course was in pretty nice shape, but the design flaws made the course unfair. If you come to the area, check out the other courses in the area (Bowling Green, Shenandoah Valley, Rock Harbor, VA National, etc.) but skip Jacksons Chase.
