The staff was friendly, the course layout was interesting. Unfortunately, the conditions were terrible. This course needs to invest in more mowers. The fairways were so long that at times you could not tell them from the rough. The rough was way too tall for a public course. My group spent 3 hours playing 9 holes. We were not waiting for the group ahead of us, we were looking for balls in the rough, and sometimes in the fairways. Whenever you can drop a ball over your shoulder and lose it, the rough is WAY too tall !! Just cut it down some and your pace of play will increase !!!!!
The sand traps were in need of work as well. They had a lot of rain before we played, but these traps looked like they hadn't seen any work done on them in months. They were like hitting off concrete.
Visually, the course was ok. The layout was interesting and there were plenty of signs to keep you going in the right direction.
With some maintenance, this would be a fun track. Unfortunately, that was not the case.

This is casual golf, fun not work, which is why I play here every time I get to visit northern Virginia. The monster par 6 is worthy challenge but not impossible. Comparatively the course is a bit rough around the edges (no pun intended) but if you want a pristinely manicured championship course you probably aren't making the drive to Locust Grove trying to find it. All the staff were friendly, and funny if you can take a joke about your game (Nice shot, have you tried not hitting into the water?).

This is a really fun course to play, except for the 9th hole on the Island Nine. Three nine-hole courses offers something for everyone. Greens need work and sometimes the rough is too long, but it is usually in good shape. The staff is always pleasant and courteous. Marshalls are very helpful. Highly recommended.

Have to concur, rude staff, poor conditioning, overpriced, not a good value for your dollar. Play anywhere else!!!

Response to GUZMAN's 8/22/07 review. This is why we stopped playing here 2 years ago. I live in Maryland and use to play here at least 7 times a year. We started playing here in 1996. My family gets together every May & September in Fredericksburg to play golf & attend the NEXTEL race. The last time we played was the last straw. The conditions of the course (rough was beyond long), the staff & the course marshals were extremely rude. The foursome in front of us were all playing Army golf, left, right, left. Due to the fact they were regulars at M/Farms, nothing was said. The marshal told our group we needed to pick up the pace. The closest group behind us were 2 holes back. We all expressed our setiments at that time. I asked the marshal if he wanted us to hit in to the group and to say something to the them, not us. We were told if we didn't like it, we could leave. We finished that hole and loaded up our bags. That was May 6th, 2005, our last trip there.

Course: The greens need a lot of work and the rough needs to be cut so you can at least have a chance in finding your ball.
Staff: Concession staff is RUDE but the starter was well informed and very helpful.

Putt-Putt on steroids. What a joke. I should have stayed home and watched HGTV with my wife.

Fun for everyone!

No. 12, the longest hole, is Meadows Farms' signature hole. It's intimidating at first (for duffers), but if you play it in three or four segments, you may even par it. An 80-degree dogleg off the tee, two ponds, woods on the right, slight uphill approach to the green with bunkers right and left.
All the holes are different, some with water, most with woods on the right. All in all, if you can hit it straight, you'll score well. Otherwise . . . .
Greens fees are the lowest in the area, maybe the state.
The staff is most courteous and helpful. As Farmer Meadows wishes, you're treated like a welcome guest.
The only drawback I see is that the new clubhouse is not a big improvement (except for the country club bathrooms) over the old one. Yes, it's bigger and brighter (red) outside, but it's still a snack bar inside.
A fun day overall. Try it, you'll like it!
