Blue Ridge Shadows Golf Club, Front Royal, VA

It was March so the course wasn't at its prime but I gave it 4+ stars because it was a fascinating course to play, and hilly, too. The traps on the front had not been maintained over the winter months but the back was fine and the rest of the course was in good condition for March. There were numerous blind tee shots so a guide or local knowledge is helpful and several tee shots with marked elevation changes, like 15 where the tee must be 100' above the landing area. Many shots require precision as the hilly nature of the course will exacerbate errors, or possibly correct them if you're lucky, and you're going to need to think your way around the layout because of the water, sand and elevation changes, though it was not overly woodsy. Am looking forward to playing it this summer.

One of the pros told me three school teams use the course and walk it rather than ride. Ah, to be young again.

A fairly new, well maintained course that is a solid deal for the quality of the course. Started playing this course right after it opened, and always head back when I can (a good drive from me). Very interesting layouts, with a lot of scenic holes...always a challenge!

Played today: course has a lot of brown and dirt spots, but this is August so no big deal; bigger deal was customer service. first, a marshal drove up to us to tell us to be considerate of the people behind us and play faster. We responded by telling the marshal we had been waiting for the group in front of us. 5 holes later we call for the marshal to ask him to talk to the group in front of us who clearly had been drinking alot and were playing slowly. He talked to that group and then told us that they were just having some fun and we could play through (we assume he knew the other foursome) Then, at the turn we asked if the kitchen would be serving hamburgers when we finished and were told that the kitchen would be open until the players were finished. We finished at 6:30 and the person behind the counter told us the grill had been shut down for the night as of 6pm. We were not happy campers.

This golf course was very different with many holes demanding precise tee shots some to areas unknown. The architect seemed to slope most of the fairways into trouble which I do not think is fair. Some of the design features were a little extreme. That being said I really enjoyed playing the golf course and its many sloping holes going up down and around the property. The twilight price was fair for what you got. The fairways were pretty good and ran hard. The greene were good but were very firm sending many good shots far and wide. Maybe in a few years they will soften up.

Great couse. VERY HILLY. Nice people. Well Maintaned. Must be a Bizy course, they stacked us up on the first hole. I felt rushed until the 3rd hole, when we finally got a chance to enjoy the Scenery and EVERYTHING the course had to offer. I would play there again, but not after the lunch rush.
