It was March so the course wasn't at its prime but I gave it 4+ stars because it was a fascinating course to play, and hilly, too. The traps on the front had not been maintained over the winter months but the back was fine and the rest of the course was in good condition for March. There were numerous blind tee shots so a guide or local knowledge is helpful and several tee shots with marked elevation changes, like 15 where the tee must be 100' above the landing area. Many shots require precision as the hilly nature of the course will exacerbate errors, or possibly correct them if you're lucky, and you're going to need to think your way around the layout because of the water, sand and elevation changes, though it was not overly woodsy. Am looking forward to playing it this summer.

One of the pros told me three school teams use the course and walk it rather than ride. Ah, to be young again.

A fairly new, well maintained course that is a solid deal for the quality of the course. Started playing this course right after it opened, and always head back when I can (a good drive from me). Very interesting layouts, with a lot of scenic holes...always a challenge!

Played today: course has a lot of brown and dirt spots, but this is August so no big deal; bigger deal was customer service. first, a marshal drove up to us to tell us to be considerate of the people behind us and play faster. We responded by telling the marshal we had been waiting for the group in front of us. 5 holes later we call for the marshal to ask him to talk to the group in front of us who clearly had been drinking alot and were playing slowly. He talked to that group and then told us that they were just having some fun and we could play through (we assume he knew the other foursome) Then, at the turn we asked if the kitchen would be serving hamburgers when we finished and were told that the kitchen would be open until the players were finished. We finished at 6:30 and the person behind the counter told us the grill had been shut down for the night as of 6pm. We were not happy campers.

This golf course was very different with many holes demanding precise tee shots some to areas unknown. The architect seemed to slope most of the fairways into trouble which I do not think is fair. Some of the design features were a little extreme. That being said I really enjoyed playing the golf course and its many sloping holes going up down and around the property. The twilight price was fair for what you got. The fairways were pretty good and ran hard. The greene were good but were very firm sending many good shots far and wide. Maybe in a few years they will soften up.

Great couse. VERY HILLY. Nice people. Well Maintaned. Must be a Bizy course, they stacked us up on the first hole. I felt rushed until the 3rd hole, when we finally got a chance to enjoy the Scenery and EVERYTHING the course had to offer. I would play there again, but not after the lunch rush.

Played this course on a cold late November weekday...absolutely alone on the course...absolutely enjoyed it! Favorite holes were 6-8 through the wooded section on top of the hill. I disagree with the "gimmicky" analysis...go to Rock Harbor if you want gimmicks. The course is a little "rolly", but only for the Front Royal-Winchester area. The long par 3 tenth hole is the scariest hole over a large ravine...anything short (even on the front edge) might roll all the way down. Staff was so friendly, took me outside and gave me a tour (perhaps because I was the only one there). I've done all the courses in this area...Blue Ridge is my favorite though without the tee-time pass, not so sure I'd play it due to $$$. Highly recommended!

Played this course on August 2, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Elevation changes made for some beautiful views. Track was fair, but challenging. Strategy comes into play on this course more than most - using woods, hybrids and irons off the tee, and well as the driver. Pace of play was excellent, and the staff was very courteous and friendly. I traveled more than an hour to get there, and I'll do it again...with more people.

Bit of a gimmicky layout, but very challenging with nice views. A little overpriced for the area, but worth a play or two.

New note - played again in August 2008. No mention of recent aeration when I made the tee time, or when I arrived at the course. Greens were almost unplayable, many tees still not even raked properly after aeration. No amends or even apologies from the staff. It will be awhile before I'm back, I was extremely disappointed.

The greens are still a bit thin, and some of the holes on the back have some spotty fairways, but it is evident the maintenance crews are doing eveything possible to keep the course in shape. Layout is outstanding, a wide variety of holes and elevation changes. Reconfiguration of the back 9 lets you finish with 3 holes that can yield birdies and help you finish strong. Driving range is a waste on the side of a hill but other practice facilities are great. Most staff are A+, A must play!!!

Played today ( a Monday), course was not crowded and in fantastic condition. Previous review was dead on in that layout is very visualy deceptive. Requires placing drive in the fairways and once on the green, putts are very quick on also deceptive greens ... this is a must play when in the Winchester/Front Royal area !!! Staff was very helpfull in every way imaginable .... keep up the great work !!!

Played here on 20 March 08 on a blustery and windy day. This course has moderate to serious elevation changes and visually deceptive distances on many holes. Don't believe me? Put away your GPS and try it !!! As for risk reward situations ?, well, that depends on how straight, long and accurate you are. Otherwise, prepare to put down a lot of "+'s" to you scorecard because this is a very challenging course! Many Panoramic views throughout the course will ease the pain of your score. Good Luck!

Beautiful layout and wonderfully challenging course. Tight fairways and plenty of bunkers.
