18 hole regulation length course
72 par | 6,914 yards
The 18-hole "Old Trail" course at the Old Trail Golf Club facility in Crozet, Virginia features 6,914 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72.Designed by Jerry Kamis, the Old Trail golf course opened in 2005.
Set in a beautiful part of the state, it offers great view of the mountains while playing especially on a sunny summer or fall day. It's a fairly nice layout but there are a few bland holes they could have done a better job with in the design, like #7 and #13, both par 3s. Played yesterday and greens were nice and rolling smooth. Fairways are all bermuda, so when conditions are right you get a great lie in the fairway every time.Holes 10, 11 and 12 are the best stretch of holes on the course. As another reviewer mentioned about #18, it definitely is the worst finishing hole I have ever seen. All in all, still a very good course for the value. A definite play in this area.
A great layout and the only linksey course in the area. Course is not in great shape. There are patches of crab grass in the fairways and greens. It would be a good course for competitive golf except for the condition of the course. If you are in the are in the area i would play it. Another problem with the condition is the course is ALWAYS wet. Even if the rain was 2 or 3 days before.
A genuine feel good golf course and a great place to play if you are have been struggling to shoot a good score. With the new lower rates for 2009 Old Trail offers good value for the condition of the course and the scenery. My sole frustration with this course is the lack of any coherent design strategy. In my view they almost couldn’t have done worse with the piece of property they started with, which is to say there are some great holes including the opening 3 and 9 through 12 are solid, along with 14, but the bad holes are bad, with the stretch from 4 through 8, which includes #7, the ultimate throw-away par 3. Sixteen is fair, but 17 is a dog and 18 may well be one of the worst finishing holes in all of golf. Bottom line: for $39 it is worth an outing, and if they ever hire a reputable GC architect to implement a proper design they could have one of the top courses in the state.
Wonderful course. Looking forward to playing it in the spring/summer.
i love this course. i'm from the area and the scenery and layout couldn't be more spectacular. this course is not very difficult and fairly wide open.
very well kept. nice design and layout. could use more trees though. i really like the range and practice facilities. hosts great leagues and tournaments.
instruction is a little old school (no video included), but the pros are top-notch! they've been a lot of help, give honest advice, and don't push-sell more stuff on your.
services are very reasonably priced, even though it's a bit of a drive from town.
Thought this course was a great value. greens were in good condition... fairways in excellent shape. scenery was special. was a very pleasant course to play.. some of the holes could be a bit more of a challenge... but being new and with any new tree growth it will end up a challenging course.. management and staff very helpful and accommodating
