I like this course, despite the absence of any water hazards. The fairways are not the typical boring flat surface you find at most other Salt Lake courses. Greens are not the best, but it is maintained fairly well aside from that.
I too have had issues with the staff. They seem genuinely unhappy to serve the customer, at least in my interactions with them. Driving range is poor. You are not even allowed to use a driver on the "driving" range.
Still, a fun course.

The greens are not in great shape but the course has a beautiful view of the valley. The last four holes are narrow and challenging. It's a fun course to play.

I played Old Mill in Aug. 07 with a buddy and can't remember how the service was because I can't get past how bad the greens were. Probably the worst I have ever seen and it's a shame because the rest of the course is beautiful and challenging. Lots of potential at this course.

This was the second time that I have played this course, and after today's round (July 24, 2007) I won't be going back. The course staff treated me horribly. We were supposed to go off with another twosome, but the other twosome was in a cart and took off before we got to hit. So the clubhouse attendant gets on the PA system, calls my name and says "You are supposed to hit with that group and go WITH them." in a very sarcastic tone. It was very belittling and embarrassing when it was completely out of my control. The greens were in horrible shape. Hundreds of ball divots on each green, they were very inconsistent greens, and lots of dead spots. No water on the course, and play was slow. There was no course marshall, and overall, it was not even enjoyable. The customer service was what really turned me off. When I paid for my round, there was no thank you or anything, the guy just picked up the phone and started chatting with a buddy. I'm very disappointed that I paid $15 for nine holes of pathetic golf.

Horrible staff attitude

I just started playing golf. I have yet to play the Old Mill course.
However, I used their driving range the other day (for the first time). As I walked into the pro shop I immeadialty got the feeling like I wasn't welcome or like I wasnt good enough to be greated or helped. As I walked up to the counter 2 employees just stared me down and didn't even give me a "Hi" or "what can I do for you?"
I felt a little uneasy but I shook it off and tried to be nice and say "Hi" I asked how much the driving range was and told him I wanted a lg. set of golf balls. He said the following (with attitude)
"Only if you got cash!" I couldnt belive he said it in that way I was flabber gasted and it showed. So I gave him the money and asked him where the machine was. He gave me attitude again and acted like I was bothering him. He said the following with his back turned ready to walk, "Down there"(not pointing in the direction.I said to myself "No crap its "down there" where is it specifically?" He only told me that it was near the tea off. So I left fumming and telling my dad about the young guy.
I spent more time than I wanted trying to find the machine. There always on the side of any building, usually. I
I feel that these people should be reported to U.G.A.
Based on the other reveiws I can see there is an on going issue of common respect and courtesy.

Poor Golf Shop Service and Inadequate Directions

Poor performance by golf shop personnel. They provided advice that they gave out balls for the driving range until 8:30pm. Arrived at 8:15pm and a blond haired boy told me they were closed on Wednesday. He was very inpolite and showed little interest in helping me. Just, its closed and good bye.

The day before, while in the golf shop, the boys were slow to help. One didn't want to be disturbed while he ate his sandwich. Customers can wait.

Old Mill Salt Lake City Utah

An amazing course that overlooks the Salt Lake Valley. Several great risk/reward holes, especially on the back nine. Incredibly accomodating staff, as well.
