I am a once or twice a week player with a 15.8 handicap average. Lubbock has been going through a heavy drought but this course was in great shape. Everything undulates...from the fairways to the greens. The greens were pretty consistent and if I were to guess, the stimp meter was probably running about 8.5 to 9. So ball speed was average and pretty smooth. This course has challenges so if you are feeling brave and cocky, it will find a way to humble you in the end. I loved this course and look forward to playing there more. Not bad for West Texas.

The best course I have played in Texas by far.

Wide rolling fairways and lots of bunkers. Playing from the forward or second(mens) tees is a must for any 16+ handicapper. Don't try to be a hero or macho on this course. I had a lot more fun teeing it forward and making bogeys and doubles than playing from the whites and losing my balls, shooting quintuples and quitting on hole 10 after sinking all my balls in the water.

With a hundred bunkers and a strategic water hazard that plays on a few holes, this course is designed to be a combination of many different styles of golf links. The holes on Rawls resemble holes from Kiawah Island, Congressional (Hole 10 is a par 3 over water on both courses), St. Andrews and many other famous courses.

There is ample opportunity for low scores on some holes such as #1 and the infamous back to back par 5s on 17/18.
There are also extremely difficult holes for the average golfer such as the par 3 16th which plays over 160 from the forward tees and over 190 from the men's tees(over 200 from further back)
Most holes also have fairway and greenside bunkers which make approach shorts difficult.
This course is a perfect example of what a golf course should be. Challenging but fair and fun. If you live in Lubbock or visiting and play golf, then you should definitely play this course.

A good course for west Texas. Some nice holes that demanded good shots. Played it in late July and it was green and in good shape. The greens were a little slower than I would have liked. Overall... if you're traveling through west Texas you'll find it's not a bad place to play.

Things have changed over the past year and not for the better. It seems that they have forgotten about the rough, weeds and stickers and the greens were not as smooth as previous years. I came into to play in the afternoon and the staff was sitting in the trailerhouse/clubhouse was more concerned with the TV than customers.
