Bearkat Course, Huntsville, TX

Great course for the value. Not the most scenic course, as it's essentially cut into a hillside and pastures with a highway running through it. However, the maintenance of the grounds makes up for the surroundings. From the tips it can be very challenging, but it cuts you some slack on a few holes. A few holes call for very strategic shots, but very playable for an amateur or beginner. Swapping management over to SHSU was a no-brainer, and they have brought considerable attraction to the course with the PGM program and the state-of-the-art training facility on the back range. The staff is always very friendly. My only wish is that they would institute a stricter dress code. I'm a stickler for decent dress (e.g. khaki shorts and polo).

Played this course for the first time and was impressed. Green fee, cart, and a small bucket of range balls cost me $29...very good value. (This was a weekday round.)
The course was very well maintained. Freshly mowed tee boxes, raked bunkers, lush fairways, etc...
The greens were very soft, yet lightning fast as compared to most courses in this part of Texas.
The only negative is the fact that they do not have a yardage book for this course yet, and there is no layout map either on the scorecard or on the signs at each hole. The first time you play a hole is a crapshoot. There are a few semi-blind shots, so the lack of course knowledge cost me a few strokes. I was fortunate enough to have a local catch up with me and play the rest of the round, so that helped tremendously.
If you're playing this course for the first time, bring a skycaddie, upro, etc...if you have one!
The driving range is quite narrow, as well, and is weged in between the 1st and 9th fairways. Don't be surprised to see a few rangeballs on these two fairways.
Overall, great value and a meticulously maintained course. I'll definitely play it again!
