Played here because Lago Vista was having a tournament. Upon arriving I was concerned as the clubhouse itself is shut down and looks like it hasn't been touched in over a year. Talked to the course pro located in a really small concession/front desk window in back who said it has recently been purchased by a developer who is turning it into ?# of hotel rooms and redoing everything.
There is a putting green but no driving range. The course nestled amongst several neighbor hoods played well. I owe someone for a damaged shingle. The greens were in good shape. Very hilly, lots of slopes and lies, can be challenging. Fearless deer everywhere, had to shew some away to play my ball in the middle of the fairway. This is truly a hill country course. The views were great although the drought has really lessened the view of the lake area. I will play this one again, a great quick Hill Country get away.

If Kim Jong Un is really targeting Austin with a nuke, let's hope Highland Lakes is ground zero. I've played close to 300 courses in my lifetime, and there are only a handful that should never have been built. Highland Lakes is one of them. It's simply an awful design.

I played this course on Saturday, 9/24. It was pretty much the only course I could get a tee time for in the area. I didn't expect much because the reviews were generally sour, but man, what a great day. Such awesome views, deer everywhere. Texas is in a record drought and the course was lush, greens rolled incredibly smooth. I could not for the life of me figure out why the reviews were so bad. At best guess, it's because the course is difficult and unforgiving for bad golfers and there are neither cart girls nor 19th hole grill and bar. There were plenty of really nice clean restrooms throughout the layout. My suggestion is this, if you are a legitimate single digit handicapper and want to work on your game, pack a lunch and go and play here. If you are a 25 handicapper who likes to play bad golf and complain about the course online, go elsewhere.

I played the course today for the second time. The first time was five years ago. The course had been shut down for a couple of years and the clubhouse is gutted. I was concerned upon seeing the clubhouse but was very surprised by the course. From tee to green it is in great shape. The fairways are really nice. The greens are coming around very nicely and in a couple of weeks when all the winter grass is burned out of them, they will be really nice. They are playable now. The green fee is $34.00 and includes a burger and drink. They are offering a membership that is all inclusive for $225.00 a month that includes your spouse. The clubhouse will soon be under renovation and this will be one of the nicest and absolutely the most scenic courses in the Hill Country. I joined....

Quite a downer for $40.00 weekday. Course has gone badly downhill. Greens were in rough shape. Scenery was beautiful. You can definately tell the decision a few years back to take this course private was a very bad one !! Clubhouse is a shamble its operating out of one room in the back. I'll be suprised if it makes it another year. It's a shame great potential.

This course has some great views, but is in terrible shape. The homes along the course are mostly in rough shape. The original pro shop is in shambles and doesn't serve much more than gatorade and hot dogs. Additionally, the course is probably mowed once a week at most. The greens are rock hard and the rough is nothing but dead grass. Common obstacles include many piles of deer droppings. I have golfed at most courses in the Austin vicinity and this is far from one of the most beautiful.

This course needs some work. To start, the clubhouse is completely under construction and there is no driving range to start. Don't expect any food or anything but water on the course on this one. The course has so much to offer in terms of layout. The views are great and the course is challenging. Unfortunately, the course is in bad shape with greens that so hard, you can't make a ball divot with a jackhammer. It could really be a gem if someone put some money into it. I would suggest you go somewhere else to play golf. This is not where you want to spend a few hours.

It is a great course that needs to get back to its former glory after being reopened in 2007. I played before the clubhouse was reopened and the greens were in bad shape from being unkept for 3+ years. Cost is high for current course conditions.

One of the most beautiful golf courses in Texas. Classic hill country views, dramatic elevation changes. Course is in excellent condition, very well maintained. A MUST play, highly recommended!
