Course Reviews

Regardless of previous reviews, this course is likely the best value in the RGV. Greens are consistently in great shape and fast. Fairways are definitely playable. The course has an interesting layout, with different challenges on each hole. Easy to walk as well, and $21.65 to walk makes it a great value.

The course has definitely slipped since early last fall. This is a very nice Robert Trent Jones Sr. layout and should provide a great golf experience. When we played this past weekend, though, we were sadly disappointed. The course was sopping wet with standing water everywhere and fairways like sponges in many places. The greens had been sanded and were totally unplayable and the roughs have become home to a wide variety of crab grasses. When we last play the course in the spring, it was in much better condition. This should be one of the best courses in the Rio Grande Valley...unfortunately it is far from that. Better places include Los Lagos in Edinburg, Palmview in McAllen, River Bend in Brownsville and even Tierra Del Sol in Pharr. When I know they have done something to improve the condition of Treasure Hills, I will be glad to come back. But will avoid it until I hear otherwise.

An okay, but below average course for the south Texas area. There are better courses for the money, especially closer to the coast (Brownsville and South Padre). A good time, however.

The course is not well-maintained at all. The front nine are too close to a treatment plant and you get to golf with the smell of well, you guessed it. I have golfed several times in the Valley and would highly recommend that you travel south for 15 more minutes and enjoy some of the far superior courses in the Brownsville / South Padre area. You'll be thankful you did. I especially recommend Riverbend in Brownsville if you like a course with long, challenging fairways, great scenery of the Rio Grande and masterfully maintained greens. Enjoy!

Treasure Hills worth the stop

My inlaws live in Harlingen and I've never took my clubs down to the Valley until this last trip. I'm glad I did. I would recommend this course. I really didn't know what to expect from this course but saw that it was designed by Robert Trent Jones. I decided to walk the course (had lots of time to burn) and wouldn't suggest it unless you really like to walk. Several holes have long walks between green to next tee. This course makes you keep it straight and in the fairway. Water hazards and the Arroyo come into play on most holes. It was a challenging course and exceeded my expectations. The downside was the wind came from the north bringing a nice smell I had to endure over the front 9 from the water treatment center close by.
