Course Reviews

I played this course today and the greens look great (it's the rainy season). They were very clean and well maintained. I would rate this course higher if:
- They didn't use mats on the driving range
- I could go into the club house at the turn (once you leave it at hole 1, you will not see it again till hole 18)
- It were located in a better neighborhood. We actually ran into a guy trying to sell us used balls on one of the holes
Overall, I still liked the course and would play it again, but I wouldn't play alone or late at night.

Played March16, terrible condition, really poor maintenance
To bad would be a nice course, but no sign that do more than minimal maintenance. Cheap to play but not worth low cost. Maybe the Highlands course is better maintained.

Played the Glen yesterday. I will temper negative comments since the grass has not yet greened up. The maintenance of the course is sub-par, even for winter conditions. Grass is thin; ground is very hard. Some pin placements left something to be desired--one was on such a severe slope, if you dropped a ball next to the hole, it would roll 25 feet and off the green. Most of the greens are elevated and bowled. This city course, like many, could be made much nicer with redesigned greens, regular aeration and water in the fairways, and better attention by the greens keeper. Overall, I call the Glen average, but only because of a grading curve due to winter conditions.

Overshadowed by the redesigned Highlands course, the Glen is a nice old-style park course that doesn't get the attention it deserves from the city. The front nine in particular requires straight tee shots, with White Rock Creek coming into play on several holes; the back nine is more wide open. With the Highlands course drawing so much attention, the Glen has become one of the easiest places in the city to walk on for a quick round. Last Friday I teed off at 7 and played a 3-hour solo round in which I saw only three other players on the course, then returned at 1 and immediately joined up with a threesome for a 3 1/2 hour round.

This isn't a bad course. BUT here are some things to have in the back of your mind when you play. The fairways are like clay. #10 hole is on the opposite side of the club house. So, if you want to take a break after nine you are going to have wait for the cart girl.

Great public facility

This newly redesigned track is very nice for a municipal course... on a level with many of the daily fee courses in the area. The greens are outstanding (except during the worst of the summer) and the general layout is excellent. I am not fond of the driving range at Tenison (I detest hitting from a mat), but the short game area is above-average for a muny. The difference between the two courses at Tenison is night & day... the other course is not even average by muny standards. Tenison Park is where Lee Trevino honed his game and learned to hustle.
