Avery Ranch is one of the best golf courses in Austin for the mid-handicap golfer. You've got to be able to control you tee shots or you'll get penalized by the rough - which is really tough. Also, there are several good approach shots that are visually stunning as the landscape is really nice. Keep your eye out for some tee time deals on GolfLink to save you on those overpriced green fees!

First problem was we had to wait 5 or 6 minutes for a cart. Since I only alloted myself about 5 or 6 minutes to hit balls I had to skip hitting a few before I teed off. The fairways were in great condition and the rough was thick. The greens were a big disapointment. They were slow and bumpy and had 2 to 5 big dead spots on just about every green. The layout was nice and it defintely had a Texas hill country vibe to it. The potential for nice views was there, but where the hill country use to be is now covered in huge apartment buildings (not really their fault). The cart lady came by often, but no sandwichs on the cart only quick snack food. Though, they did have a phone on the 9th tee box to call in your food orders and you could use the GPS to call in orders. The food was ready at the turn and the service was good. The GPS was neat, but the yardages it gave seemed to be off more than they were on. It is defintely an above average public course, but for a course that is ranked as the best in Austin it was a little disappointing (especially the greens). Played Teravista earlier and the week and was more impressed with that course.

OVERRATED!!!!!!!!!!! Staff is not friendly. Went through 3 carts. I had a flat and they made me drive it back to the clubhouse to get another one. They would not bring one out to me. Greens are very rough, bumpy, and hard as a rock. The worst value in Austin area. A reasonable green fee for this course would be about $30 not $63!!! Go to Terravista or Forest Creek.

I played this course again and I think that is a fine course but not a great course. If I were a member here I would quickly get bored.

My biggest complaint is that the greens were really slow.

Open fairways, lots of water in play and lots of elevation changes. Lovely course but expensive.

Never did like this course, but with the wind it is nearly impossible to enjoy. We were playing a money tournament(Individual Stroke) and were between two other tournaments(Scrambles). We were being pushed the whole round. Couldn't get comfortable. The starter actually told us that he was trying to get as many people on the course as he could, just to make the club more money.

Some very pretty holes. Course in good shape but a bit pricey.

Avery Ranch is a ripoff!

I setup a tee time at Avery ranch a couple of days in advance. The only tee time they had available in the morning was at 7:12am. I show up that morning with my 3 friends and paid our $76 each to play. (OUCH! Can we say expensive?) We didn't see anyone ahead of us when we teed off and played the first 5 holes with no problem. We then get approached by the marshall who rudely informs us we're playing too slow and that we're backing up the course. We politely let the marshall know that we'll try and pick up the pace a little. We continue on at a more aggressive pace and no longer see anyone playing behind us or in front of us. The marshall approaches us a couple of holes later and rudely informs us that we're still behind and that we'll need to skip the next hole. We informed him that according to the time sheet in our cart, we were exactly on pace. He said the course was backing up behind us. We turn around only to see NOONE behind us for two holes. He insists we have to skip the next hole. We asked him if the course was going to give us a refund for the skipped hole and he said no. Needless to say, we played the next hole. I've never been treated so rudely at a golf course before. We never saw anyone behind us for the rest of the day after we were first approached by the marshall. It's obvious this guy was on a power trip.

If you're visiting Austin or live in the area, find a better course to spend your money on. Avery Ranch is waaaay overpriced for what you get. If you want to spend that much money, go check out Teravista. It's a much nicer course and they even come by with cold towels on a hot day. Now, that's service!

Avery Ranch is a waste of money in my opinion.
