I have also played this course hundreds of times, and I would not agree that it is in the best shape. The greens are in great shape, but the fairways and tee boxes are a wreck. I had invited a friend from Nashville to town for a quick round and chose the course based on reviews on the site. We were surprised that the course was as poorly kept considering the cost of the round was as high or higher than other coursed in the area.

The staff was friendly, but not as instructive as we would have hoped. My friend from out of town wanted to use the range to warm up as he hadn't played in a while. He began on the new range mats, but a member of the maintenance crew rode out to inform us we should move to the grass. The staff member later came back out to rudely inform us that we had moved to the wrong grass, and that we should move on down. A sign would have been nice especially considering it was Memorial Day, and you would anticipate a higher traffic day.

I will not play this course again for some time, unless alternatives simply are unavailable. There are many other options in the area for $30 for greens fees and cart rental. I would recommend you do the same.

Well i have been playing at southern hills since I was 7yrs old and have worked there since I was 16 now im 23. I have never seen the course in the shape it is in now. We have put so much time and work into the course to make it everything we can. We have had the ability to buy new mowers and the money to have the right chemicals and fertilize this past year. No souther hills is not known to be the best course in Putnam County but we have had more play and good comments said to your FACE this year. The way I see it is if you dont appreciate the work that has been done out there and the time us workers have spent o well. We are very proud of all of our hard work.

Hey Scott McCrary! If you get this, I have a ton of great ideas for your courses visual appeal as well as playability for all handicap levels. If you're interested call me@ (541) 315-0100. Sincerely, Steve M.

The new owners have put a ton of money in this course. The greens are fast and the fairways look great. The staff is constantly working on the course and can be found every where. The clubhouse has been completely redone, new carts. I can't say enough. We went from playing at White Plains to playing at Southern Hills. At white plains there is always something going on and they close to the public and the staff is pretty rude. My vote is for Southern Hills. If you haven't tried this course in a while give it another chance!

Worst course in Cookeville not laid out good at all. They are always bothering you and on hole 2 you have to shoot over a big mound of dirt. If you want a good course to play go to Ironwood.

Finally the owners of this course took it back after it was leased to others the past few years! They are putting real serious money and attention and have hired a superb course manager. Although there are a few houses around the course, mostly the scenery is pristine with rolling hills and beautiful water features. The owners have also been refurbishing the large beautiful clubhouse, and have added a 19th hole with full bar service and food. Finally, this is a place to have a good game and lots of fun again.

This Golf Course is back in control of the owners after several years of neglect by the former leasers. The New Management has purchased new equipment and new carts, and has a progressive plan scheduled to revitalize this course back to its shimmering luster of the late 1990's. Our "Motto" is: Do Something Everyday To Improve the Course.

I don't know what cdog sees in this course. It is the worst course in Cookeville. The only difference in this course and belle acres is nine more holes. The greens are like concrete and it has grassles fairways.Real nice club house. They should have spent more money on the course. The golf course has potential but it will take several years of hard work and lots of money to save this course.

Southern Hills a.k.a. by locals as Southern Skills, Southern Thrills, Southern Bills, Southern.......etc.

This course was historically bad until the past year. I don't know all of the why's, but the owners started to invest some real money into the course. The investment shows in all areas of the course. It has taken Southern Hills from Worst to First in Cookeville. The course is average on the scenery scale, but the maintenance has become top notch. I can't believe I am actually complementing Southern Hills in a review. Sometimes truth hurts! There is plenty of water throughout this course as well as a fair share of sand bunkers. Nice elevation changes are on several of the holes and some fairly extreme doglegs. You must be honest with this course or you can get into some trouble especially if you play from the tips. Good course, Reasonable price. Great value!
