¬Is Hollenback a great course? No. But it's good for what it is: a short, low-budget, easy-going, city-owned course designed with the high handicapper in mind - but even low handicappers can find Hollenback a challenge.
It has changed a lot since the last reviews and since new management took over a couple of years ago. The tees and greens now have automatic watering systems, there are senior tees, a par-5 has been added, bunkers have been improved and other details have been implemented. The greens are in good condition - albeit a bit on the slow side, but that's done with the clientele in mind.
Yes, the fairways do not have water, so they get parking-lot hard if it doesn't rain, but that's the way it is at courses like these. And yes, some of the nets to keep balls from going onto Washington Street are in disrepair.
There are some challenging holes - No. 2, 5 and 6 come to mind.
The prices are insanely low: For nonmembers, green fees are a high of $8 for 18 holes during the week and a high of $10 for 18 on weekends. The prices go down in the late afternoon. Also, a city resident can get a year membership for $175, and it's $275 for a nonresident. And, there are no tee times - you just show up.
So, although Hollenback will never be considered a great course, it is definitely a value for those who want to get out and play with no hassle.

Being a bogey golfer, I really enjoyed this course. It was the first round of the year and I liked how the par 4's played. The greens here can rival almost any local course. The fariways can be a bit shabby but the over course is great if you wanna have fun and not break the bank. 9$ to play and I'm in!

To sum the course up it has easy par 4's and hard par 3's, Great Value, The greens are the best in the valley. People over look this course a lot, People think it is an easy course but it can play very difficult, and very nice staff and members, Overall a great course

This is a good value for the money. Golfers like pabandguy don't understand value and are ignorant. Just google "pabandguy" and you will see his remarks for every course. It's always the same, this course sucks or is not up to par. Or this course is a dog track. He is probably a very poor golfer, with a very poor attitude and blames his poor scoring on anything but himself. What does a person expect for 10 or 20 dollars? What an @$!*%. Born2Golf

PLAYED THIS COURSE ONCE THAT WAS ENOUGH . MAY TRY IT AGAIN THIS YEAR. COURSE WAS VERY DRY WHEN I PLAYED.MET SOME NICE PEOPLE WHILE PLAYING . COURSE NOT VERY MEMORABLE EXCEPT THE LARGE FISH NET HANGING ANONG #1 FAIRWAY TO KEEP THE BALL FROM GOING DOWNTOWN.

this place is pretty much a joke. it is only 9 holes, of which several are often closed. however, as it only costs 7 dollars to play, it is a great value to @$!*% around. i highly recommend this course for the idiotic golfer.

I just hope the fishing in the pond on number 8 is good because the golf sucks. $8 is too much for this dog track.

O.K. Course for the Price

This is a decent golf course that I wouldn't pay more than ten dollars to play on. The good part is that the greens fees are only $4-$7 dollars. No carts, so know that you're going to be walking, but I'd play here everyday just as a practice course if I had the time.
