Just played this course a few days ago, and unfortunately was very dissapointed. Condition of the course was less than public course standard, and this is a country club. Maintenance was terrible, greens rolled fine once you got past all of the ball marks, which no ones cares anymore to repair. The course is in very bad shape, and not worth the money they are asking to play on it. Just a very dissapointing experience there... Save your money, play elsewhere until they realize they need to step up or fold the place.

Having been a member there since 2000, I am appalled with the condition that Highland has deteriorated into. Outside of the greens, which are now mediocre at best, this course is deplorable.
Let's go through the list above;
Amenities: NO driving range, only a putting green. Weak clubhouse with a modest kitchen. Broken down carts.
Difficulty: slope of 123/124... narrow fairways and lotsa hilly lies.
Maintenence: the new owner has put NOTHING into the course; fairways and rough are poorly maintained, with a tremendous amount of dead and dying grass. Bunkers have NO sand, only packed mud. Tee boxes have weeds and debris.
Scenery: Pittsburgh skyline is seen from the 8th fairway. Otherwise; there is nothing to look at, except the neglected golfcourse.
Value: go anywhere else, this place is the pits.
Overall: An absolute disgrace. DO NOT WASTE YOUR $$. No one at Highland cares anymore about the golf experience.

The greens are some of the best you'll find. The course is in good shape. The layout is very Pittsburgh. If you are not going up hill your going downhill. Lot's of short holes with blind approaches. It plays much longer than the yardage. The greens make is worth coming back.

Hilly, short, but challenging

This course has a lot of topography. Although many of the par 4s are under 400 yards, don't expect to score well here without a very good short game. In the past three years, the course has been superbly maintained, and is now playing firm and fast. It has the friendliest 19th hole in Pittsburgh.
