Hopefully Getting Better

This course is a great course to play in the spring, but loses its flare as the season progresses. (Especially in the summer when it gets hot and no rain falls) I've been a member for the last 2 years and I think this year, 2007, should be a turning point. Members have stepped up to "retake" the course from poor ownership and are making a hard-fought effort to retore the course. This course will challenge you and force you to hit the ball straight. (Especially on the front 9) O.B. lurks all around the outside of the course. It has an assortment of holes that you can really score on, but you must finish on 3 holes that are extremely difficult. #16 is a 555 par 5 dogleg left. You must hit the ball about 240 to the left side of the fairway to make the turn. The hole in general is just brutal. #17 doesn't get much easier with a 217 yd. par 3. Miss left and just put down at least a bogey. It's nearly impossible to chip close to the hole over the traps on the left side of the hole. #18 looks easy, but the green has a lot of slope. There's no in between. Overall, I hope to see the conditions get better. It's a fabulous course and could really be worth the price if it is maintained.

Greg- Greencastle PA

This is a "bombers" course...long! When I played this course in early August, the fairways were burnt and the only remaining grass seemed to be crabgrass. Crabgrass occupied portions of the greens also. A drive on the left side of a hilly fairway ended up in the woods beyond the right rough. If the course was maintained (which costs $$$), this could be an excellent test of golf. Almost all greens are surrounded by difficult traps. I was surprised by the potential of this course, difficult by my standards, with mountains surrounding. It's worth a trip to golf in the mountain setting but needs some tender loving care. With the proper finances, this would be an awesome course!
