Deer Trails, Beaver County's Best Kept Golf Secret

This 9 hole layout provides a great golf round for a great price. Plan on riding because the savings walking is not worth asking about. The practice green is a nice size and in similar condition to the course. Don't eye up that beer in the cooler because they can sell to members only. The midyear condition for the course was fantastic with challenging green speeds and overall great maintenance that I hope will continue. On a few occasions during play, there appeared to be more workers on the grounds than players so I hope the high standards of the past can be maintained. The rough is kept at a height that you really will have a much easier time from the fairway so club selection off the tee is tactical on many holes. The course is a short layout due to the relatively short par 4's but that does not mean an easy layout. The par 3's are long to very long depending on the tees selected, and the opening par 4 is a real challenge right out of the car cold. The second hole is an interesting short par 5 with a tee shot that has to be seen to be appreciated. Over a ravine with the best angle shooting right at the edge of a stand of full grown trees. A moderately high accurate shot (over the trees) is not really that diffucult but it is quite intimidating from the back tee. Pull off this shot and an average to long hitting hacker will have a legitimate shot at the green in 2... but watch out for the surrounding bunkers. Even on the short par 4's ther are trees and bunkers in good supply to keep you honest. If you don't keep that driver straight, big numbers can jump onto the card. I have never seen the pin on the upper back level on the par 3 5th but if it ever is, that will be a major test of golf. I will rank that par up there with any birdies of the round and actually would be happy with a 4. The finishing hole is a par 3 which is unusual but don't get overly excited. Miss the green right and you better hope you go into the bunker because the hill is too sloped to hold most shots and you will put up the big number. If you are looking for good course conditions, a nice test of golf that also will reward good play with a good score, this may just be the place for $16 riding.
