Never seen this course in better shape. I can't say a bad thing about it. The greens were beautiful and the fairways plush. This is probably the last year for it's existence So tee it up and i promise you'll enjoy every hole!

The bar is coming as told to me when i was looking for a 6 pack before my round!! i live around the corner, heard of this course, never played it!! Pleasantly surprised!! great trac for the price!! Old school small greens in good shape, depending on the tee box you use fairways can get pretty tight!! i was impressed for the value!! BYOB encouraged, Im ok with that!! enjoy!!!!

Not much to the course. Other than the fairway on the 18th hole, it is always in good shape. Hole number 8 is too quirky for my liking. Occassionally crowded, but generally it is not too bad. Good course for the price.

I played at 4pm on a Saturday. It cost $25.50 with an electric cart. No golfers in front of us or behind us. No food or beer either. The course was beautiful. Greens are relatively flat. Some fairways are tight. It's an old mature course. Bring your own food and drinks. Fairways have markers on sprinkler heads as well as 100, 150, 200. Tee boxes have concrete markers in them as well. I can't say enough good things about this place. But I generally only play later in the day when the place quiets down.

This is a sweet old course.

It was a private course in the day, now public, and at risk of being developed for housing. The clubhouse isn't much, but there are a number of old stone bridges, tight fairways, and unique holes to make me hope this gem is still a golf course for many years to come...

Locust Valley is still on death's door but is open for the 2008 season. I had not played here before and I must say I was surprised at what I found. Had I not had GPS I would have passed the place as it has no sign and it's parking lot is a smallish lot of cracked pavement behind a building. I thought I was in the wrong place until I saw other golfers carrying their bags down a path. You pay in a building with not much more then balls for sale and get your cart. This experience gives them a 1 for amenities. The rate was very fair at $49.00 for an 8am Saturday tee time. Luckily the course itself is nothing like the "clubhouse". There was a pleasant starter who saw us off and I immediately noticed the course was in pretty good shape. They are maintaining the course itself but nothing else. At many holes the placards are gone, or faded to nothing. Some of the cart paths are crumbling and it is obvious that whoever owns the course is not putting one nickel more then they have to into keeping it running. There were no rangers, nor was there a cart with food or snacks.
The course is relatively short, however the narrow fairways with trees on both sides, mixed with the small and rather fast and heavily bunkered greens makes for quite a challenge. The scenery is lovely. It is really too bad what is happening to what in it's heyday must have been a spectacular location. I would recommend this course for anyone who just wants to golf, could care less about any other amenities, and is looking for a reasonable rate.

Another solid course that is falling victim to developers

This course is on death row. Two seasons ago, this course was marked to be sold and the land would be developed into a retirement community. Tis a pity...

This little course is a great layout, with some of the more diabolical greens you'll ever play. You'd think that Donald Ross had something to do with this trek, but he didn't.

Very demanding course off the tee. Very demanding approach shots needed on these wicked greens, guarded by deep bunkers with heavy sand. What this course lacks in distance, it more than makes up for with a demand in precision and short game.

Unfortunately, this course is dying a slow and painful death. Since the "deal" to sell is being managed slowly with all of the legalities involved, the course is remaining open indefinitely. Outside of cutting fairways and greens, this course isn't being maintained. And it's a shame, it's one of the better public courses in the area at a good price.

I'll mis it when they close for good.
