Here's one of the oddest courses I've played. If maintenance would ever become an issue...this would truly be one of central PA's secret gems. Though I detested the narrow fairways (preventing my normal fade), I loved the set-up of this course. Even my two young sons loved this golf course. For golfing on top of a mountain, you really don't receive sweeping views, but the tree lined fairways still offered that isolationism that most courses can't offer. You are golfing in the woods...literally or not. We had the major misfortune of following Amish...yes...I said Amish...golfers and play was terribly slow. I am told that the course is usually vacant. Monday's is $5 day, and my youngest played free and my 11 year old played for $2.50. There isn't a better bargain that I'm aware of. The pull carts and logo balls cost me more!
The course is nasty tight...exploring the woods would be a ball-seekers paradise. I enjoyed the Par 4 second hole which forces an iron tee shot with a large pond protecting the green in front. The Par 3 4th hole was my most picuresque with a huge pond filled with cattails in front and traps nearby. The Par 4 5th was almost equal and if you don't know the may not be aware that the fairway becomes about 15 yards wide near the green with ponds on either side. Holes 4 and 5 would be spectacular on any course...but they don't take care of their holes here. Greens with plenty of bare spots and traps with yucky sand. The last three holes play back up the mountain and were tiring for little legs. But when two young boys, who walked a total of 18 holes, were still smiling at the completion of their round...Blue Knob was a winner! It's still a best kept secret! Maybe not now!
