I played Bethlehem about three or four times in the past (three to five years ago). I always had a wonderful experience (played once with a Lehigh University Journalism Professor who went to school with Tom Weiskopf - great stories). I was in the area recently and decided to play the course again. The staff was friendly and helpful as always. Unfortunately, the conditioning of the course has gone down, in my opinion. My earlier impression was that Bethlehem was a top conditioned muni, but not at this time. The greens are still very challenging (you better be on the proper side of the hole), but some were a bit beat up. The fairways were not like I remembered them. Maybe my opinion is clouded because on the last hole I hit a nice drive, stuck a mid iron to four feet.....and missed the birdie putt! Bethlehem is still a very interesting municipal track, better than what I am used to where I live, BUT, it has diminished over the past couple of years.

Nothing to write home about but some interesting holes. This is another course that tries to make up for a lack of distance with severely sloping greens. Tee boxes and fairways can be fairly beat up but greens were a decent speed (at least on the day I played). Helps to know which greens will accept an approach shot and which ones when hit on the front of the green with a high, spinning lob wedge will roll over the back of the green.

I played this course for the first time today, 5/17. I've played several courses in the Lehigh Valley Southmoore, Whitetail, Olde Homestead, Wedgewood, Riverview and Green Pond so Bethlehem Muni was another one to check off the list. I found the course to be a really nice layout, very old school, but loooong. The $46 non resident fee was very fair. We played from the blues which might have been a mistake in hindsight, at least as a first time player here. I'm a decent driver, consistent 250-260, and hitting 3 and 4 hybrids in to par 4's over and over became a grind. I just got new irons and other than a couple par 3's and few other shots i never really hit them. It was always driver, hybrid, chip. I believe there's only 2 par 4's that play less than 400 from the blues and several are in the 440/450 range. It's a looong course, par 71 too. It's also fairly tight in some spots although the back seemed much more open. The greens offered plenty of undulations and rolled true. They were a little inconsistent speed wise but i think that had to do with the weather. Bethlehem Muni would be a very very solid test for any player from the tips, 7100. If the rough was grown out and the greens rolled, this could be one of the toughest courses in the Valley. As it is it's a nice muni that's slighty over played. With a little more TLC this place could really seperate itself from some other places in the area. If i played it again i might play from the whites just to change it up. The problem is the White are 6200 which is quite a drastic drop off. If you're in the area don't hesitate to play here. It's a very solid, straight forward course.

Driving up to it confirmed what I've heard. The place was in great shape. Greens though not marble, were true and plush. Not a tough layout, very fair and enjoyable to play. All is in front. No water, no forced carries. Great place to sharped skills. Best bang for the buck I've played for sure. Will be back.

Good public course.

Nice layout, good conditions, affordable price. I play here several times each season, and feel that it was worth the price and the extra drive. One of the better public courses in the Lehigh Valley.
