The Club as Shannondell is a pretty nice course with a terrible course layout. Unlike the last review, I will attest that this isn't a "dogtrack." In fact many of the holes are interesting and provide a stiff challenge, especially at the tee box which requires accuracy due to some narrow tree lined fairways. The actual holes were fun to play and I'd deem the maintainance to be above average. The greens were true and played to an average speed. However, many reviewers hit the mark when complaining about the far too frequent neigboring tee boxes and balls that very often find there way from other holes onto your fairway. In fact, some tee box locations are simply dangerous. The layout is really really bad, probably due to the small space in which the designer tried to fit 18 holes into. The other problem is that they need to do a better job managing their tee times. Too many unwilling 2somes had to get paired up, not exactly enjoyable to some golfers like myself who truly don't want to play with another group. The price of $25 to walk twilight weekend is reasonable and they do have logo balls for the logo ball lover like myself, a huge plus. Despite its 2 major drawbacks, is a good course to play, if and only if, you can find a non congested period of time in which to play. Otherwise, due to the layout, I wouldn't bother. Overall rating...B

I've played all the public courses(as well as some of the top private clubs)in the Phila area, this is one I won't be returning to...dog track

Nice course...fair...some pretty holes...not extremely difficult. Not my favorite layout but if the course plays fair, it makes for an honest round. "Gimmicy" fountain in the middle of the 18th fairway...what's up with that? A little more wooded than the neighbor course down the street (Jeffersonville) but perhaps not as challenging.

This course does provide the opportunity for decision making in club selection off a number of tees -- the set up is such that automatically pulling out the driver isn't necessarily the best option. There are a few challenging dogleg holes here, but overall rather boring and uninspired. The entire layout seems to lack acreage, with holes designed so close together that wayward shots frequently find adjacent fairways -- wearing a helmet here isn't a bad idea. Course conditions are okay, the greens being in better shape than the fairways or rough. This is not one of the more attractive courses in the area -- the holes along Egypt Road in particular give the feel and appearance of actually playing in the road itself, not because of the proximity, but because there's no visual break between the road and the course. In general, most everything about this course says "average," which isn't bad, but isn't likely to earn a spot on many players' "must return" lists either.

The staff is friendly, the course is well maintained, but the course layout is not very good. Tee Boxes and greens from other holes are always very close to the hole you are playing, and one time and groups from two other holes were playing up my fairway in the opposite direction. Twice we had a tee shot from another hole, hit our tee box, once an errant tee shot hit our green. I have never heard so many fours in a day of golf. If the course was spread out on more land, I would have liked it.

Their twilight on the weekends provide a good deal. I really enjoy the putting surfaces, and th ere are some solid par fours.

I have played this course a few times and it is always in top shape. The fairways and greens are of championship calibur. One thing i like about this course is the amount of change and creative thinking required to obtain a low round of golf. Many holes you are not able to just blast a drive 250 300 yards down the fairway as is the case on many courses in the area. The bunkers and water hazards are placed in good position making the course a little more of a challenge, and finding one of the fairway bunkers means hitting more than a nine to most pins. Some fairways can be a bit narrow and with a few doglegs its a great course to practice your long iron game. Missing fairways on this course could mean your going to be laying up, another thing you wont find on many courses in the area. Overall this is a great course with beautiful scenery and nice people.
