9 hole regulation length course
The 9-hole "River" course at the Blue Heron Golf Club facility in Medina, Ohio features all the hallmarks of Ohio golf. Designed by John F. Robinson, the River golf course opened in 2007.
Played this side for the first time today...what a let down! We had to play this side because there was a bridge out on the Lakes side...very disappointing (though I saw other golfers on that side as we left???). This 9 has some of the same risk/reward opportunities, however there are a lot of spots that this course is not fair for lower than average golfers (my father in law doesn't hit the ball further than 180...which makes the carry off even the Senior tees difficult to say the least). We encountered bunkers with tadpoles living in them, bunkers that were overgrown and marked ground under repair because they no longer feel like keeping them up, greens that have dead spots larger than golf carts, and greens that actually appeared to have sand traps in the middle of them. I hit a lob wedge to a par 3 to 4 feet...AND DIDN'T MAKE A BALL MARK! There was also a huge section of the concrete cart path that was cracked and falling away from the rest of the path...it was covered with plywood...this would have to be considered a HUGE liability issue, yet they had no signage or detour marked. To top it all off, our golf cart's batter was dying, we used the GPS system to report it, and nobody did anything about it...we literally had to push the cart up hills for the final 3 or 4 holes. I will say that the food in the River Styxx Grill was pretty darn good (the Vickerman burger is delicious!!!).I won't be back and I certainly won't recommend the course to anyone I know.
