Grey Hawk Golf Club, Lagrange, OH

Complete debacle!! Played the course about 4 years ago...and played it again today. Wow ....what the hell happened? Bare fairways , unkept bunkers etc. Real disappoint!!!

I came here in July hoping to see a BEAUTIFUL course.. After all the more expensive courses near me in Cleveland were all LUSH and green during the drought.. After all they are charging 2-4 times what other courses charge..

Man was I wrong! This course was dead on ever inch. The greens were dead, everything was dead.. It was absolutely disgraceful. The worst part is that they haven't even lowered their prices during this time when the course looks like it hasn't been taken care of in a decade.

So I went today - thinking, it's October and we've had an astounding amount of rain since July, and it's got to be back to normal right??? No, wrong.

Today I went there with my brother, both drove an hour, and we were DISGUSTED... They clearly had no intentions of getting leaves off the course, the fairways had dead spots EVERY WHERE, and probably the ONLY good thing I can say about the courses is that the greens looked great.. it was clear that they were clipping them at PGA levels so that they didn't have to cut them often because today I've never seen green this fast in my entire life.

This is my third time playing Grey Hawk, and all three times have severely disappointing me... I refuse to go back, they should be ashamed at the prices they charge that they cannot maintain their course,someone is squandering some money some where.

How disappointing! Much like TheJett, my friends and I like to travel to different courses around the state and especially enjoy playing new and/or difficult courses. Having never played this course and seeing it on GolfNow's website...we decided to give it a try...a 48% savings on the greens fees made it especially intriguing.

Clubhouse...very nice.
Restaurant...you could smell the deliciousness from the parking lot.
Scenery...very nice.
Course...in my 20+ years on golf courses in Ohio, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Florids...I have NEVER seen anything quite like what I saw today. This course had ZERO grass in the "fairways"...ZERO! From the tee, one can usually look to the fairway as a reasonable cue as to where to line up...that couldn't be done here. The layout is very nice...some of the holes are spectacular (the "oasis" green on #3, the peninsula par 3 #11 is awesome) and, as I said earlier...the scenery is very nice. Until today, we had NEVER walked off a course before...13 holes in today and we had enough...why keep going??? We were given reasons for the condition...not enough snow over the winter, not enough rain in the spring, not enough rain during the summer, too many hot days...why is it that there are so many courses in the area that still have green fairways (most charging FAR less than the $48 weekdays $55 weekends that they charge)? At the very least, they should make a note on their website that they are experiencing some condition problems and are adjusting their greens fees accordingly...we went based on what we saw online and were UNBELIEVABLY disappointed. If I had paid $48 to play today, I would still be there complaining. As I was there I heard the guy in the pro shop take tee times for a group of 8 for Sunday not mentioning that they weren't in very good shape...they are going to come on Sunday and pay $440 between them to be disgusted. The fact that they can take money from players with a straight face is almost criminal! One of the things that helps to build a golf course is word of mouth advertising as well as repeat play...we were one of two groups on the course today (we were told as much by the young lady on the beverage cart). Do you think that we will be back? Too many other courses in far superior condition to put this in the rotation. We have no problem driving an hour to play a quality course...Grey Hawk won't happen again for a LOOOOOOOOONG time...if ever.
The arrogance of those in the pro shop was also noticed and not appreciated. When we complained about the course...as politely as one can complain, we got excuses and claims that they are experiencing more play than normal (how is that possible with 2 groups on the course on a Wednesday???). We happened to take a look at the comment box...all voiced the same comments as TheJett and myself...HORRIBLE conditions to say the VERY least!

What a rip-off this place was. We like to travel on weekend's to nice courses in Ohio that we haven't played before. We found ourselves at Grey Hawk after visiting their awesome website. The clubhouse is beautiful, and then you get out on the course and they hardly have any grass covering anything. We were told 3 different reasons for the poor conditions from 3 different employees, which leads me to believe they are just con-artists who make a killing off people who have never played before. You pay $55.00 to play this junk and you go home wishing you would have just played at your favorite local course. One positive was that the greens were beautiful...good luck trying to get there though. Awesome layout and design, but whomever is managing this place should be fired. Don't waste your time there...it is worth all of $15 dollars for 18 holes and a cart.

Very good golf course club house is nice. A little over priced for the area and overall condition. When arriving at 8am for 830 tee time only 12 cars in lot on a nice day. Watched 2 groups come thought hole 18 after we were done sitting at the bar for a hour and a half. Not a good sign.. Will play again, very good pace of play with nobody there.

Can't believe some rave about this course and give it 3 stars? It is a fantastic layout with every hole offering a unique feel and challenge. #11 with an island green and into the wind from 170 is tougher to hit than Sawgrass #17 (I've played both). Greens roll great and the conditions have always been excellent. Clubhouse is also a winner for meals afterward on the huge deck overlooking 18. Only complaints is the pro shop people are a bit, no... way too snobby to me. I come to play despite them. Also, the trains on about 3 holes are extremely obnoxious and always have several trains pass by (at the worst times!) Still, a must-play in the area.

Great layout - challenging, but fair. Lots of water and sand. Course plays firm and fast. Huge greens, and they roll nicely. Rarely plays the same twice. Condition is average - public does not repair divots or fix ball marks. With better conditioning, would be a Top 10 Ohio golf course. Nice clubhouse and grille room...food is well above average - nice menu. Most of the staff is friendly and helpful (with one exception). A must play - put in your rotation.
