West Point is an 18-hole public golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones, located in the Hudson Valley. This course is nicely paced. You’ll find four Par 5 holes throughout to add challenge, but you’ll also have plenty of opportunities to breeze through on the six Par 3 holes. The longest hole on the course is #7 at 509 yards and the shortest is #13 at 153 yards (measured from the blue tee.) There are 5 tee boxes (including 2 ladies tee boxes.)

With a slope rating of 126, this course is above average in difficulty but still very playable for intermediate golfers. You’ll find creeks and sand traps to challenge you, as well as elevation changes and tight fairways. The course is hilly and elevated, so the wind can be a challenge at times.

Fairways are straight and narrow. The course is cut into an existing forest, so you’ll find the trees along the fairways are very thick. Bring a range finder to help calculate distance, these fairways can be misleading. The short yardage (6,007 yards) of this course is misleading - the elevation changes and tight fairways still provide plenty of challenge.

The setting of this course gives it a private feel. Being able to hit the ball straight on this course is important. You won’t find many surprises on this course (except for a few sand traps) but there is a need to have a handle on golf fundamentals like club selection and aiming the ball correctly. Fairways are well-maintained and the greens are quick. This course is especially scenic in the Fall.

Hole #12 (389 yards) is especially tricky because it’s a double blind shot. There’s a sharp dogleg right off the tee, and then another blind shot (also a dogleg right) just before the green. Watch out for balls flying between the fairways on #10 and #15 - these two fairways share an open greenspace with no trees to separate them. Get ready for a long, uphill drive between #14 and #15 (walking this course is not recommended because of the elevation changes.)

The staff and marshalls are friendly. Basic food items like burgers and hot dogs are available. The clubhouse is basic and could be updated. This is a high priced course ($70 with cart,) but the views and the level of play at this course make it worth it. They also offer a military discount. This course is well worth the drive.

Terrific course and experience at West Point...lots of hills, elevated tees and greens, and uneven lies make this a real challenge...good roll on all greens...nice people from clubhouse to starter to marshals, all very helpful...yardage well marked from fairways but wind and elevated tees/greens make a range finder important...will return and play again! Clubhouse/foot/on course cart all provide good service...an enjoyable round of golf! Highly recommended...

A great course. Awesome layout, great conditions.

West Point Golf Course is a very hilly, par 70 layout just off the main campus. The yardage is not very long - about 6,000 yards from the tips, but do not let the distance fool you - the dips, turns, drops, creeks, and lakes makes this a very tough course, especially if you are not hitting the ball crisply. The middle tees are only 5,500 yards, but that still plays to a course and slope rating of 68.4/128.

The course was in great shape. Nice fluffy white sand bunkers. Fairways and greens in great shape. There are some excellent views of the surrounding hilly landscape from the high points on this course.

If you are not in the military, the course is not cheap. They did run a recent Living Social Deal that was very reasonable. Nonetheless, playing this course is worth the cash.

Amenities are minimal - there is a small pro shop and a snack shop that sells sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs and other miscellaneous items.

In summary, an excellent course. Make sure you play it if you are in the area.

Absolutely beautiful layout. Definitely an old school course. The folks that work here take pride in providing the golfer access to a well manicured and well maintained course. Do not let the yardage from the tips fool you. It may appear short on paper but with the elevation changes at this course it feels like it is easily a 6400 - 6500 yard course. If the wind is strong, it could easily feel like another 100 - 200 yards. The course is an incredible value, especially if you are or were in the service. Even for civilians, it is a great deal. A word of caution to those who plan to walk...the course is a beast. It takes about 3 minutes to drive uphill from 15 to 16. The extra money for the car is well worth it. All in all, a fantastic deal. I would definitely return to play again.
