Played an Audobon style links coarse which reminded me of a similar coarse in Boston called Granite Links. From the back tees, this was a challenging coarse. You need to keep the ball out of the fescue. I was 60 yards away from the green in two on the par 5 6th hole and ended up with a triple. It took me 4 shots to get out of the high stuff! Most of the holes have elevated tee boxes, with some with split fairways. You can take the longer safer route or go for it on the shorter side. The coarse has a Scottish feel, and it is of championship caliber. The par 3 8th hole plays longer than it looks, and stay away from the left side. I believe playing this coarse a few times makes frequent playing and easier track.

People don't give this course enough credit. It is a very interesting and creative layout with blind shots, elevation changes, and split fairways. The course is well maintained was well. although the greens were slow, but it had rained alot recently so i'll give an excuse. the only negatives i can say it is a bit pricy, and the round is slow. Otherwise it is a mustplay.

I played back nine and found that my Nassau Cty resident card meant nothing to resident status. I paid too much for 9 with mandatory cart ? It was enjoyable though, but when is golf not? I had a problem on Sunday @ 9:20am that the courtesy cart for beverages did not have coffee but beer ? Never again here.

I've played this course a ton since they first built it, probably about 5 to 10 years ago. It is the closest public course from NYC (about 35 mintues). A challenging links style course that has matured well over time. Over the past few years, they have really cut down the fescue that once made it very challenging and do not allow you in some of the "environmentally protected" areas. Course plays easier now, and rounds are a little quicker. Still, you can be sure that any tee time after 10:00 on a weekend is gonna be a 5 hour round. Staff is pretty arrogant, and not accomodating (to be expected in this section of LI). For instance...last weekend, there were maintenance people all over the course distrupting play - management nor the rangers didn't seem to clue them in - it was almost comical. Also, their range balls are horrible and probably replaced only once per season. For the money they get per round, you would think they would get some decent balls out there. New clubhouse is really nice. Decent course, not worth non-resident rate.

Too expensive for publice course. Good news: Challenging with long holes . Bad news: greens are usually in bad shape plus count on at least a 5 hour round (or more).

Although Pricey and Slow, A Nice, Challenging Course

First the bad - over $100 for non-residents on weekends and 5.5 hour rounds standard. But the good is you can usually get on, it is a well maintained, difficult and interesting layout. Not much else that compares in the neighborhood.
