Nice public course. You don't see many public courses as good as this one. The challenge level depends on the conditions. If the greens are dry - have fun (I intentionally dropped a ball on hole 6 on the back side of the green in dry conditions, and the balled rolled off the green and went down the slope of the fairway - which is steep).
This course is in the country, and in a spot where it is frequently windy. When it is windy hole 18 is more like a par 5 than a par 4 430 or so yards hole.

Hole 5 has an attractive view from the tee box; it drops down 30 yards or so (a guess). On the right is a pond which starts around the 260-270 yard mark and ends over 300 yards from the tee. The green on this hole is difficult to read; I find it tricky. I think it will go left, and it goes the other way.

Hole 13 has a couple of coffin bunkers that, with a good drive, you can land in. The hole is around 350 yards or so; the prevailing wind gives you a hand on that hole.

There are positions you can be in on the course where a flop shot is a good tool to have in your arsenal.

I could right a complete review of the course, but I am not getting paid for it...

p.s. The new Flyover of the course has the hole numbers labeled incorrectly. Hole 10 is actually labeled hole 1, and some of the destination greens for the holes are the wrong greens.

very nice course. love playing there. stay in fairways. back nine easier than the front for me. 15-17-18 hard finishing holes.. but not too bad. some blind shots that are enjoyable worth everything to play there

Having played all the surrounding golf courses in the area, Barker Brook was a real joy. First: The tee boxes were flat, level and groomed. This is something of a rarety in public courses in the CNY area.

Second: The fairways were cut in just right to offer a challenge/reward. If you hit the fairway, they are groomed and flat. If you miss hit, you're in the long grass. Not too long, but a challenge. Again a rarety for a public course.

Third: The greens played well and were even on the soft side. If you hit the green, you stayed on the green.

Some holes offered a real challenge with multiple ponds and bunkers. If you want to challenge your game, on a very well groomed course, that won't break your wallet...take the short trip, it won't disappoint. PLus the scenery is beautiful.

Not a difficult course, in reality. Par 3's are short and greens are always in great shape. The best part is that the course is VERY reasonably priced. If you haven't played here it is worth every penny. The backside is very easy being so new. Give it 10 years and the difficulty will be a bit higher.

Barker Book Golf Course

Course is usually in very good condition. The middle holes on the front side can be wet but usually playable.
Greens are in good condition and well maintained. They run medium to small size.
Course management is working at improving the course each year.
The average golfer will enjoy the layout and the lower handicap players will find it challenging with sand and water and hazards that keep you aiming for the short grass.
