Hardwood Hills Golf Course, Masonville, NY

I read the reviews of this course and felt some were being a bit hard in their reviews. This course has made many improvements over the years and is turning into a very nice place to play - all courses have growing pains. It is not super long and does require proper shot placement, especially when shooting at the rather smaller greens. And Yes you are playing up and down the side of a mountain, which does require you to make adjustments for the changes in elevation - bringing your brain into the game. A strong breeze will make the course play totally different, either shape the shot - keep it low or find the trees. As for the little old lady that runs the place during the week - she is not a golfer, but a damn good cook; visit more than once and she does warm up quickly. The locals that play there may not be PGA material, but always friendly and willing to let you play along if you happen to be by yourself. If you can't have fun there it is not the course's fault - it is yours. For $20(weekdays)with a cart(which have been upgraded)you can't beat it. I am PROUD to say I enjoy playing there, if you enjoy playing golf (and not a snob) you should give this place a try and will come away with a smile on your face - isn't that why we play.
