Fun course with well designed holes. First time I played it s few years ago I remembered all the holes . Greens have a great variety. One of the best design courses in the state. I wish I lived closer I would play it all the time.

My rating is 4 stars (the site is screwing up when submitting the rating). One of the best courses in the Hudson Valley Region. Beautiful course, always in great shape; and quite challenging. Gonna be pricier than many other courses in the area, but you're paying a premium so it's not crowded and you can enjoy your round. Staff is pleasant, and the food at the clubhouse is very good. One of my "go-to" courses. I highly recommend it for good golfers that want a challenge.

One of the finest golf courses in the Hudson Valley - public or private. A Links style course that looks and plays differently than other area courses. It is consistently in excellent condition and typically plays fast and firm. The greens are some of the best in the area. Less than 90 minutes from NYC and a short ride for CT residents. Anyone I have brought here for the first time has been delighted by the quality of the course and are always anxious to go back. Well worth a trip to play if you haven't yet. Practice facilities are excellent as is the Pub. Pro Shop and Pub staff are first rate.

In my opinion if you are looking for a wannabe "Links styled"(loosely used) course that is unjustifiably high priced, run by a bunch of pretentious snobs, then this is the place to go.
There are so many great courses in the region run by much nicer and knowledgeable people, I will never understand why would anyone return to this course.
I for one, would never play on this course again.

This is a really great golf course. Well maintained and an interesting layout and some beautiful countryside scenery. I would have to agree with some peoples reviews that calling it a true links style golf course is a stretch. the course emphasizes aerial play a little more and didnt play quite as fast as a links course should, as well as it not being seaside. However i still really enjoyed this course and would recommend it to anyone. if you are disappointed that the course wasnt as much like a links course well then go to scotland.

I really like this course. The review saying that this is not really a links course is accurate. It is reminiscent of links golf, with the scenery, the contours in the fairways, the pot bunkers, and the fast green. But, the emphasis is still on aerial shots, and there are not a lot of greens that really accept run up shots.

Conditions were very good, fairways were excellent, greens were SUPER fast. Apparently the rough was much more penal a couple years ago, but has been cut back recently to aid pace of play and enjoyment.

The design and layout was enjoyable. The course was reasonably easy to walk, but there aren't a lot of benches to sit down between holes, and there is very little shade due to the links style layout. There were not too many opportunities to "go for it", but club selection off the tee was important on several holes. There were not a whole lot of blind shots, but there were plenty of visually stimulating and appealing shots.

The staff was very pleasant and good humored.

The only negative was pace of play. I was there on a Friday 11:12 tee time, and I didn't get off the course until 4:45. I was really surprised since the course website has specific references to pace of play. The regulars I played with said this was never a problem for them before, and that generally the marshals do an excellent job of moving things along. But that was not my experience.

To conclude, I can't wait to get back to this course. I want another crack at some of those holes, and I really enjoyed the experience as a whole.

Having played many true links courses in the UK & Ireland, I can happily say that this is absolutely nothing like a links course. I think they must have an odd concept that if you make enough blind shots, you can call it a links course. A true links course will have firm fairways, the option to run the ball up and several shot making options. None of these are present here.

This is an American variation on the heathland courses in the UK, but a much more aerial game with some penal rough, that for the most part you can't see.

It's a good course for the 250 yard straight hitter.

Facilities are good and a wonderful range.

I have played this course twice once in July and recently in August (2007). The course was in excellent condition on both occassions. Prior to Unionvale, I had never played a "links" style course and I see that this style of course requires much thought to club selection and positioning. If you do not hit straight, be sure to bring plenty of extra balls. There is tall fescue and waste area on most of the holes that will eat up errant shots for sure. On top of that, I have played most public and semi-private courses in the area and none has the variety of hazards that exist at Unionvale, including true pot bunkers, mounds in fairway, steep drop off out of bounds.

The back nine seemed more challenging than the front nine. The variance between the tee boxes seemed greater on the back nine. The par 14th hole is a tremendous challenge but fair—requiring you to make a layup/go4it choice on your second shot. Also, you should brace yourself for the final four holes, they are a brutish bunch.

I played during primetime so there were a couple of backed up holes on the front nine, but never more than a couple of minutes. The staff was friendly and accomodating. It is a "semi-private" facility, and I showed up for the first time by myself and was grouped with regulars who showed me around the course and helped make it an all around enjoyable round.

I invited along a few of my golf buddies for my second visit and they were all floored by the quality/price ($55 w/cart weekend after 1pm!). I will definitely return to this course again and again . . .
