New to the game, but Pelham Bay is a great course for someone of my ability (on the cusp of breaking 100.) Most of the longer holes and pretty straight forward, and the shorter holes make up for distance with bunkers and elevation issues. Enough challenges to make it interesting but not too tough. Split Rock is a little tougher and a little better maintained. Staff and fellow golfers have always been friendly.

Played Pelham Bay on a very, very cold December day. The course was largely empty due to 20-30 degree temperatures, so only the hardiest of the hardy were out there today. Nonetheless, the course was in decent shape for winter.

This is one of the better NYC municipal courses (Split Rock, Pelham Bay, South Shore and LaTourette are the top four NYC muni courses in my opinion). Pelham Bay is located in the Bronx just south of the Westchester border. Split Rock golf course is right next door -- the two courses share a pro shop and restaurant. This makes pace of play a bit quicker than other courses since there are 36 holes in the complex - although pace of play is not too much of a problem in 30 degree weather like it was today. Still a summer weekend round here could take you a while. Pelham Bay is the easier of the two courses, but it is now slouch. My favorite holes are the 4th and 5th holes near the Westchester border. The 4th is a relatively short dog leg right with a tough two-tiered green and the 5th is a very long dog leg left from an elevated tee.

This course at full rates is quite pricey -- there are no winter rates. Try golfzing.com for occasional specials. Regular price with cart is $72 - we paid $36 through golfzing.

In summary, a nice course - one of the best NYC has to offer.

course is in great shape, the staff are among the most friendly of all nyc courses and do what they can to keep things moving. enough challenge from the blues to back pins to keep you interested, great putting green, wish they had a range, good food at the grill. can be a bit slow at times but because their are two courses there, usually pretty easy to get out.

very good prices, especially for juniors, so what if you have to pay a couple bucks for parking. beautiful new clubhouse with good food at the restaurant. the play has been speedy enough for me most of the times ive been out here, only a few times its been bad. the course is in very good condition for the amount of play it gets, being a public course in an area filled with private ones.

Played April 25, 2009. They seemed to have listened to your comments, as I did note experience any of the negative postings. There was water to clean the balls (all looks recently installed), the clubhouse was modern and very nice, the putting and chipping greens wide and multi-tiered which was great. The pace was decent for a Saturday AM, teeboxes in good condition as well as the greens. Overall was a really decent course for a New York muni. I will definitely play again there.

PS - There is a beverage cart and food station on the start of the first hole and the turn (same station).

a neat and well maintained course.. no special comforts, office is a trailer but there's plenty of parking space and nice people to get you going. plenty of carts.. no pull carts available. and prices are reasonable during the week...expensive on weekends.

I have never seen this before. Being charged for parking at a golf course. WOW. My Wacky experience did not stop there. As I paid with my threesome the cashier inside tried to pull a three card monty trick on me with the change he owed me. He tried. Very unprofessional. The Other reviews are correct about starting on time. Very behind, bring an extra bagged lunch. The course overall is well worth the play but recommended on weekdays. Watch your wallet inside the pro shop with that cashier though.

Don't know where to start, they have water coolers but no water not even to clean the balls. If you reserve a T time of 4:00pm you can expect to start abut 4:35pm or later, not sure what's the purpose of reserving if they'll allow other players to get on as they come. Staff is rude, the T-boxes are in terrible shape, the greens are bumpy and aerated, cart are dirty. Plus I didn't break my usual 100, I guess my game sucked as much as the course!

Clubhouse under renovations but should finally reopen this year hence the low score for amenities. No driving range onsite but one a mile away. I take pub trans here so i cant take full swings on site but there are chipping and putting greens. Course has MAJOR DELAYS because they really don't do a good job timing how they send people out and sending out a ranger to keep it moving. great value very cheap but twilight is $30 with cart not 20 as golf link says. Also the little e book of the holes is completely inaccurate, apparently they have changed some holes over the years but some of these aren't even close

A fun course of moderate difficulty. Well maintained - fairways and greens, aside from when being aerated, are generally in good shape. The course seems to set up for some rather lengthy delays on the front 9 however - it is not unusual for there to be 2 to 3 groups waiting on each of the first 4 holes (on weekends that is).

Reviewed September 04, 2007

This course was aerated this weekend. The greens are, thus, in terrible condition. Otherwise, the course has wide fairways, playable fairways and flat tee boxes. Good for a municipal course in a city of 8 million people.
