If you ever have the opportunity to play this private course, I highly recommend it. It does not require long drives, and strategically placed fairway wood and hybrid shots from the tee can still leave you in a good position to score well. The greens, however, can be a nightmare. Depending on the pin posistion, even the best putters can three and four putt. I like playing on days with tournaments, because they usually put the pin on a flatter part of the green.

Two of the four par fives are reachable with a decent drive, but going for it will require a blind approach to a bunkers green. The course is always in fantastic condition, and the pro shop has some good stuff.

What I love most about this course, is the variety of options that that you have on almost every hole. I just love looking out and having 2, 3, or even 4 options on how to play a hole. In some ways it makes the course easier, by allowing you to avoid hitting a club that you haven't been agreeing with. However, no matter what option you choose, the greens will have breaks that you will not see.

Vestal Hills is a private country club... and they don't let you forget it. Like many private courses, they've fallen on lean times recently. As such, they've been forced to allow the unclean masses and general public rabble onto the course (but only on Mondays). For $55, you get a haughty eye from the pro-shop attendant and the keys to 18 holes of glory. The course is all that it should be for the price (minus gps). Tees, fairways, greens, rough, and sand are all immaculate. The course has some quirks, but flows competently. You need your "A game" to score well here. Greens roll true, but can perplex you with subtle breaks. Errant tee shots can lead to big scores. You'll certainly master your punch shot. We didn't take adavantage of the invite for lunch, but we've heard the food is good. The pro-shop actually did have some reasonably priced merchandise. All in all an excellent play, if you can get past class system.

Played this course for a tournament warm up - should have been the tournament course. Hilly fairways make for some tricky bounces away from the greens during approach shots. Greens were super fast and very tough to read - very deceptive. Great course to play and would love to again.
