First time playing Sunset Valley in 3 years and probably the last time this year. When i'm playing a course, its for the quality of the course for the price more than any amenities it may offer. Today, the conditions were not good. Many of the greens were pockmarked with a fungus or had simply small 2ft areas of no grass at all. As is normal, the greens were fast (which is good), that is when they were mowed recently! A few hadn't been mowed at the same time as others and were suddenly crazy slow. A few of the fairways were no different than the rough. Just bad conditions for what is normally a decent course. Compared to fellow county course, Berkeshire Valley, they were terrible. Played BV last week and conditions were as good as I've seen for that course in a few years. When there is competition like the Crystal courses 20 minutes north, your conditions better match the price paid and unfortunately, that was not the case with SV today.

Great setting in a wooded valley. Interesting, undulating course, but poorly maintained greens. No driving range, limited putting and basic cafe.

I play it once or twice a month, primarily because it is close to my home. Staff is nice, concession stand lady nice but overprices everything. Numerous nice holes. Number 2 is now a 550 yard par 5 with the last 150 yards new grass that still hasn't grown in. Greens are atrocious, hit the ball pin-low or enjoy walking 15 yards down the fairway. Course is getting better though. Back nine is unique, largely due to the fact many tee shots are hit blindly up or down into the fairways. Out of county rate is ridiculous. If you are just playing different courses to collect logo balls, its a good course. Play it once, and leave. Don't come back. Scenery is awesome.

The course has potential to be a nice course. It has a great layout and tough track. However, its not maintained all that well. Greens were inconsistant and spongy and the rough was beginning to get burnt.

course is a total dump...yes work in progress but holes done last year already look horrible. sod is dead, greens need to be cut...just an embarresment to one of the best layouts in municipal golf...word is greenskeeper is readyh for retirement...maybe then this course can be saved..before the holes being completed this year die out for next year...3 tips for maintaince..lawnmower, fertilizer...weed killer...

Love this course. After the renovations are done, it will definitly be a 4 star course! All Morris County courses are nice. Very reasonable and fun to play!

Reviewed October 21, 2008

This course has potential once the renovation is done they currently shut down holes #4 and 5 for the rest of the season but they will give you $5 off your next round you play at Berkshire. Fun and challenging holes, greens fast and challenging. Your game could turn upside down once your done with the 7th hole. That is one of the toughest par 5's this state has to offer. The staff has its days. I would recommend you to book a tee time especially if you don't have a county card.

The course is gettting a lot of work done it. Over the past year or so it has not been to fun to play out but I have a feeling once all the renovations are completed this will be a 4 star facility! Keep posted....

Beware of this course and when you choose to play it. I agree with everyone who has posted comments. A beautiful course with great potential when construction is done. However, nowhere on the course website does it mention that the overhaul on the course consists of shutting down the back 9. So..a 9 hole course with outrageous prices reserved for 18 hole counrty club. I felt it was very misleading. Complaints to the pro-shop didn't do any good either. The locals might enjoy the course and know the little quirks but how are the newcomers supposed to know that they're going to get HOSED!! Please call ahead.

I'm not really sure what a "memeber" is but pepsent must work for the Morris County Parks Commission or even worse Sunset Valley Golf Course. The course sucks and the staff is just as bad. Two words for pepsent "spell check".

Obviously, "OhPlease" is not a memeber. A Beautiful course! Yes currently under renovation. When finished will be better than ever.

I played this course on a Saturday and the wait was horrible. The course is currently under construction and this makes it difficult to complete a round. The staff was pleasant enough but one particular individual was extremely offensive. Beware the man with the large nose. I also understand the Director of Golf for Morris County can also be equally offensive. Just go to the course, mind your business, play your less than satisfactory round, go home and find another course to play, anywhere but here.

I love this place, the course rocks, very well kept like a country club, the people who work there are cool too. The scenery is to die for.

Reviewed July 23, 2007

Not a long course, but a challenging layout with great finishing holes. Has become a bit worn out over the past few years, but the two year redesign project should probably correct that. The plans for the new design are very exciting, and should make a very good layout even better.

#7 is probably the toughest hole I've ever played...Great course overall

Reviewed April 20, 2007

A real test

Probably the hardest of the Morris County courses. Greens break toward the mountains making it difficult putting course. Some of the holes are just unfair, but there is a major construction going on over the next two years to fix this - I hope. Almost impossible to walk this course, way too hilly.
