The 18-hole "Hidden Valley" course at the Hidden Valley Golf Club facility in Lincoln, Nebraska features 6,155 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. Designed by Carl Dietrich, the Hidden Valley golf course opened in 1977.
I have played Hidden Valley since it was built, known by many who play it as Hidden Ditch and The Farmer's Country Club. The designer Carl Dietrich became discusted, with the difficulty of getting on the city courses, so he bought the land and built his own course. Carl was head strong and did things his way. The original course was nine holes.Much of the rough was uncut prarie grass, so if you hit it off line the ball was lost. There was always a shortage of water, making the course hard and dry in the summer. Some of the saltier players were experts at the rolling game. They could play a 150 yd. shot that would never get more that 10 ft. high that rolled half the distance and ended up 3 ft. from the pin. If you hit the green on the fly the ball might bounce 20 ft. high and come to rest 20 yds. past the hole. Carl later bought more land and added nine more holes. The course has been under new ownership and they have worked to improve the course. The greens and tee boxes are getting better and the course gets more water, although the course still drys up in drought years. There is also a new club house( the original club house was a baracks moved from a deserted missile site). The course has always been fun to play considering that it was layed out without even a blueprint and is better maintained by the new owners.
