Winston Lake Golf Course, Winston Salem, NC

Started playing this course back in February. A lot of work has been done on the course. New cart paths, a lot of sod has been put in and the fairways are greening up. A couple of the greens have a few problems but they are being worked on As for the staff, really great group, very accommodating, professional and considerate of play.

A nice, cheap course in the Winston-Salem area.

This visiting New Yorker played Winston Lake on a hot September Sunday afternoon. The course is not very long - just over 6,100 from the tips, but it is quite hilly and plays longer than it appears. Hole #3 (If I recall correctly) is a neat, challenging dogleg left par 5 with plenty of woods and water to deal with. A nice course layout overall.

The staff was courteous and friendly. My only complaint is that the maintenance could have been a bit better. The course itself was in very good shape, but the greens were not cut recently and played very slow and the sand bunkers were apparently not raked prior to play this day. But the round was only $25 WITH CART. On a weekend no less. Maybe that is the norm down south (a course of this quality would run $70 with cart in NYC). Despite my largely minor complaint, it was definitely worth the price.

There is no food but some snacks available for now, but it appears as if they are getting a license to serve some real food soon.

In summary, a very nice challenging inexpensive course in Winston-Salem and worthy of a play if in the area.

I recently played this course and shot a great round, it had its challenges but the greens were in horrible shape. Huge patches everywhere. It was so bad, on the back nine our group didnt even bother putting. This course has great potential, but is in need of a major overhaul. Fairways weren't bad, not the best...not the worst, very playable. Clubhouse was in good shape, and the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Would love to see the city make an investment in this course.
