I played this course while on a business trip. I'm sorry, $25 for a public course that is as well maintained as this one is a steal. The greens are slow but that help a hack golfer. The tee boxes are excellent and for me, I always notice the area around the greens on a course and these were excellent. Not wild grass and stubble but very smooth to allow an approach to bounce and roll up on the green. Fairways were good and the rough wasn't hell to get out of. Alot of variety, uphill, downhill, doglegs, water, length. If I lived here I'd buy a membership to this course.

This can be a fun course to play when not too crowded. I usually play during the week and wait times are generally not too bad. The course is very well maintained and the greens are not as slow as some have implied. If you are used to playing on very hard fast greens maybe so but I'm not. Speed is about average. The front nine is relatively flat with not as much challenge as the back. Back nine has two par threes and a par four that negotiate over water from the tee box. Also a hillier terrain on the back, starting with #9 just before the turn. The golf carts are kept clean and are a nice quiet electric with good speed. My home course is Goldsboro Municipal and this course has become a part of my repertoire of about 4 or 5 different courses I play for a good mix. Senior rate just increased from $15 to $18 and is still a good price for a well kept fun course.

I really like playing here bacause I live only 10 min from the course. It is a good value if you can put with waiting 30-45 on the 1st tee box. The last two times I played it was 5 hour rounds and that was in the middle of the week. Staff is friendly for the most part but a LOT of the regulars who play there are not. I would rather play at Happy Valley and Willow Springs in Wilson and not have to put up with the crowds.

The course is usually in great shape but not worth the long waits and rounds to me.

The course itself is nice, short, pretty easy with an open format. There are a few tight dog legs and one or two small fairway bunkers which might come into play. For the money, hard to beat and that is why it is crowded on weekends. It's hard to keep a good secret.

Course is great for the beginner/average golfer but if you are looking a long challenging course with large greens, rough and fairway bunkers, you might fair better somewhere else. I recommend the public course Ford's Colony in Rocky Mt, although cost is much higher (50 bucks).

I like the well maintained putting and chipping greens. The fairways are rewarded by the great water system linked to the city. Driving range is a little awkward since I rolled a few balls up to the 2nd tee box when hitting driver (it is at the end of the driving range).

One downside is that it can be a little too laid back at times with some people wearing some t-shirts not tucked in and stuff, but that is a public golf course for ya.

Tommy is excellent and glad he has been here this long.

But to be clear, the golf course is cheaper and better maintained than some member courses in the area because everyone in Wilson County and City of Wilson chips in. It is city and county owned and tax payer funded. Hard to compare that to a "member" sponsored courses in the area, except you pay membership at those other courses to not put up with crowds like this public course (over 45,000 rounds a year).
"$10.9 million is for the J. Burt Gillette Athletic Complex and Wedgewood
Golf Course Renovation." "…Golf Course, will require a property tax
increase of 6.4¢ per $100 valuation in FY 2011-12"

So if you live in this county/city you are paying membership dues, you just do not realize it.

This is my "home" course due to several factors. It is located within shouting distance of 3 other private/semi-private courses yet continues to be better maintained than the "member" courses. The greens putt slowly and are small in square footage but are well kept and require all of a players shot making skills to knock it close. Distance control is far more of a premium here than a power game, although the wide open fairways and reachable par 5's and 3 or 4 drivable par 4's allow the long hitter to score well. There is no country club atmosphere and lunch between rounds is limited to pre packaged sandwiches and a microwave oven. But the reward is the course itself, which is dollar for dollar the best value in Wilson County.

Really liked this little course. A few more demanding tee shots than i would have guessed. Really in great shape. Really good value. Will play here again.

Excellent value

Best course for the money in this area. The city really takes care of it. I go and try other courses, and I keep coming back to Wedgewood.

fun course

wedgewood is a very good and affordable golf course. there is about 10 different coursed that i've ever played and this is my favorite. for the past 2 years, they have really done a good job keeping the course well maintained with wide fairways and smooth greens. i think i like it so much because it is a cheaper course, friendly management, and low difficulty.
