Course Reviews

WOW!!! What a difference a year makes....came through last year and Brantley the superintendent introduced himself to us and apologized for the condition of the course (we thought the course was in great shape). Anyway, played there a couple of weekends ago and there was a 30 minute wait time on the tee sheet. We waited and boy was it worth it!!! Apparently they hired a new guy there in the pro shop named Randy Davis that everyone in Rocky Mount and the surrounding area knows and the place is bustin' at the seams.....dont know whats going on but boy is it a good thing!!! In Myrtle Beach for a few weeks but definitely making a point to stop there on the way home to NY. Only negative I can give them is there is no beer sold there (you can bring your own) and not much of a variety of food(no hot food)just snacks. Overall a great bargain at a soon to be top golf course!!!

We play at Northgreen at least 2-3 times a week. Can't beat the value of $20 for 18 holes and that includes the cart !!! It's the longest course in the area and it's a challenge to play. No frills golf at it's best.....no bells and whistles, basic pro shop with food and sodas, clean bathrooms, friendly staff. Again, you can't beat the price for a challenging 18 hole round of golf !!!!!

Northgreen has a long history and is a well established course in the area. The design is impeccable and an excellent challenge for a low to mid-handicapper. The course has undergone its fair share of management issues but is doing better now. It will take more time to get the course back into the shape it was during the ACC days but it is a wonderful and fun place none the less.

We played a charity outing at Northgreen yesteray and could not have enjoyed it more. We stayed late and played an extra 9 holes. We were treated extremely well, the greens , fairways and even Tee boxes we all in xlnt shape. ( Cart paths stil need work but who cares). All 4 of us were quite surprisedat how nice and how much fun the course was. The price is a real bargain. It is a 2 hour drive for us to get there but was so much fun will make the drive anyway. No Mickey Mouse Holes, very enjoyable golf.

This course has a such an interesting history from hosting ACC Golf Championships as a new private facility to being completely run into the ground by various previous owners.

Underneath it all is a solid design that needed lots of TLC when the present ownership group took over. They have done a good job on installing greens that could stand up to the test. The fairways are well along the way back to full coverage. But there is still work to do. The cartpaths need serious attention. There are some serious drainage issues scattered around the course. The sprinkler system appears to be held together with bailing wire and duct tape. And add to that a lot of asthetic work that needs be done around the grounds. It is a huge job and one has to wonder just how much of it can be done in the current golf economy.

All in all, its a respectable course. The design alone makes it a worthwhile venture. Hopefully the maintenance will continue to be upgraded.

I didn't have the greatest of experiences here made a 1:00 tee time and drove just about an hour to play and they didnt mention they would be closing the course and carts in a 4:15 ON FATHERS DAY so needless to say wasnt the best fathers day outhing with my dad and the course is in very rough shape for $35 dollars fairways were very bad and greens were i would sair fair at best i wouldnt reccomend this course looks as if it is going down hill pleny of better courses in the area

I played here on May 30, 2008 and found the course is excellent condition. Clubhouse needs work as does the surrounding area. It has been let go recently. Would play here again on my way home from Myrtle Beach.
Fair for the ladies, but no easy go

This place is fantastic! This is a terrific value for the dollar amount. Whenever I'm in the Rocky Mount area, I make Northgreen a destination. A very challenging course from hole #1 through #18. I came here during the major drought that occured during the summer and fall of 2007 and the course was in pristine condition. This course used to hold the ACC Championships back in the 80's and 90's; so that proves that it is no cakewalk. The rating is 74 so unless you're on the PGA tour, you'll find some real challenges here. My favorite holes are 18, 10, 1, 7, and 4. Even the bad holes on this course are good. I came here during the week and couldn't believe the bargain. Where I'm from, this course would have easily been three times the amount asked for. This is not a good couse to walk although you can; it's better with a cart because of the streets that you have to cross and the fact that there are places where you have to travel a bit to get to the next hole; it is surrounded by a golf community. Highly recommended!!

What a great course...it is challenging and a great value.

local golfer

new owners took over a goat track.they have invested dollars and time to turn this LADY around they have done a super job.they are still working every day.new champion greens are to be started middle of month.very excited to see there commitment to our course cant wait to play when ready.would reccomend to any one who wants to play a champion course to give it a go.thanks for bringing her back

The Return from Myrtle Beach

On the way back home, we drove to Rocky Mount and played Northgreen. The staff was excellent and very helpful. The layout is excellent. The greens were true and rolled good. The bunkers were not too bad after a night of rain. The fairways were in rough shape. This one has the makings of a great course, if they could bring back the fairways. I know new owners have taken over, and if they can make some improvements this will be just a great place to play!

course coming back

course has been turned around completely. greens are greateven after 2in. of rain.

Northgreen Country Club Review

I had played this course when I first came to Rocky Mount in April of "06 and found it not to be in sound condition, but that was before the new management took over. Having played it recently (Dec.'06) I have found a changed course. This is a great track and the new owners are (in the opinions of all to whom I spoke) "doing all the right things to bring this beautiful course back to the condition it enjoyed when it was a multiple time host to the ACC championships".
I personally found the course to be in much better condition than when I first played. The conditioning of the greens, bunkers, tee boxes, etc. had much improved over my initial outing.
I would recommend anyone living or visiting in this area to give this grand old course a round, or two, to properly impress the golfing sensibilities. The Head Pro, Al Godwin, is also an excellent source of information about other fine courses in the Rocky Mount, Nashville, Tarboro area.

A Grand Lady is coming back to life!

This course hosted the ACC for many years and was attacked by players such as Davis Love and others notable ACC greats. The layout and tee arrangement allows for every caliber of player to accept as much of a challenge as he or she desires and the "NEW" ownership consists of some of the most committed and friendly groups I have ever been lucky enough to meet. Given a little more time, this course will again be the favorite of Rocky Mount's best golfers.

Course on the rise

This course is definitely on the rise. The new owners are investing in greens and fairway upgrading and it's a joy to play.
