Easily the most overrated course I've ever played. You pay and play here for reputation. If this course didn't have the history it would just be the equivalent of playing an average municipal course with tricked-up greens.

FANTASTIC golf experience! Friendly staff, great Holly Inn rooms. A bonus of staying at the resort is unlimited use of the driving range and range balls. Course no. 2 was very challenging-super fast greens, lots of bunkers, and difficult terrain.

Definitely get an experienced caddy. A knowledgeable caddy knows how to read those greens which is needed on course no. 2. Some of the other courses at Pinehurst don't require the need of a caddy to be played well.

I was fortunate to have Willie McRae on the bag. What an incredible amount of knowledge and experience this wonderful man has! Besides his wealth of golf advice, he is a joy to talk to and spend some time talking to.

My overall experience at Pinehurst and on course #2 was well worth the money and time.

One of the gentleman I was playing with said this course was living off of it's laurels and he's right. The course is simply not in a condition to be charging $300 a round. They are rebuilding about six of the 18 holes for the 2014 US Open so the course is torn up on the edges on 1/3 the holes; there are quite a few patches of bare grass particularly in rough areas. That being said the greens are as advertised. It takes a perfect shot to stick or you end up in one of the many greenside bunkers which are in good shape. Staff & caddies are amazingly friendly and will go out of their way for you.
I would play it again to check it off of the life list; but if it wasn't Pinehurst NUMBER TWO I would never spend this kind of money on this course.
