Rude and unprofessional grounds crew. As our foursome was about through with our round with 4 holes to play, we were in the fairway ready to hit our approach shots to the green and an employee was on the green spraying it. We waited about 15 minutes for him to finish before we could hit. This was the first time I've ever played a course where the grounds crew didn't stop and let players play. Well the same thing happened the next two holes so being the last group of several finishing up and knowing the rest were waiting for us to finish, we went ahead and hit our approach shots to the next two greens with the employee still spraying the greens slowly. None of our balls got anywhere near him. On the last hole as we were hitting our approach shots another employee approached us and told us to never hit while his employee was on the green. We told him the circumstance and I said the employee should have let us play and then sprayed the greens after we passed and he said that's not how it works there. Very unprofessional. Other than that I enjoy playing the course itself. Just rude unprofessional staff.

2008 review ..One of the best courses in this part of NC ...great variety of holes ...well maintained ..fun to play ...However , I have played this course about 10 times in the last year and when you go to pay the man behind the counter he seems to be bothered that you are there and very irritated that he has to walk over to the counter to take your money ...Maybe i`m wrong , but i think a hello or welcome to glen oaks should be REQUIRED from the face of your business... They have also on 3 occasions this year started groups on #10 when we were playing #9 ...The starter never bothers to check #9 when starting groups on the back ...The last time he started 4 walkers on #10 when we were putting on #9 green ( this is VERY IRRITATING BECAUSE WE PLAY FAST )...Having said all this , I really enjoy the course AND ONLY THE COURSE....
.. Just an update to my review from 2008 .. Course is still great .. Excellently maintained ( plush & green ) ..They do have a new clubhouse , but they still have the same rude guy running the pro shop ..He must be a majority owner .. I`ve talked to members and they feel that they have to apologize for his rudeness and not to pay him any attention .. But we come for the course and it is as good as it gets in this part of the state

Course is normally in good shape but is a below average layout. Good track for occasional round or for a beginner or senior golfer. Much better designs in the immediate area.

Well maintained couse. 3 holes are pretty long but other than that average length. A few holes strategy does come into play like using a long iron instead of driver from the tee. I agree with earlier reviews that depending upon who's at the counter you may be treated differently. Never play Frirday's at noon because that's the members' dog fight time and you will not get in, but other than that it's pretty open course. The staff behind the scenses are very friendly "local" boys who have grown up in this area and have been with this golf course for years.

I recently joined Glen Oaks after playing and visiting all the other courses within a 10 mile radius of my home. Glen oaks is far and away the best course in the Lincolnton area. Its very well maintained and always in incredible shape. Its a true test of a golfers ability. I have yet to find the "grouchy" person others have alluded to. Everyone has been very friendly and accomodating when I've been in there. Interesting local rule. On hole 18..if you are in the fairway...you can tee the ball up and hit it over the water. Its probably a 170 to 200 yard carry depending on where you hit the ball. It does make the second shot a whole lot less scary!! Greens are in pretty good shape..not scary fast...but they appear to roll true. The fairways...perfect! I'm from NH originally...so the membership price was a bargain for the amount of time you can play down here. I'm very satisfied with Glen Oaks!

I have played there several times and the course is always in good shape. The problem I have is the staff there is very rude. I called to set up a tee time for Friday for a group of 4, they said I didn't need a tee time for friday. Well my group arrives and they try to say we needed a tee time to play. The guy was rude and made me feel like jumping across the counter and jerking him across to the other side. They finally let us play but then they come running out to us on the 10th hole and say we were going to slow. We had been waiting for the group in front of us the whole time and they saw this but they wanted to act like it was us. Again, I felt like jerking this guy out of the cart because I know they were just trying to give us a hard time. They never did say anything to the group holding us and everyone up. They are a bunch of rude jerks and I will never go back.

This is a nice course but like the other guy wncgolfer said the guy behind the counter must hate his job he would do better at a fast food restaurant. In and out is the name of his game!!they will not tell you if tournament is going on or not and more or less get in and get out.. The course is beyond beautiful and graet shape. I recommend this course but you better have plenty of time to play on wed and fri @ 12:00pm!!Any other time is great....

Other reviews talk about tight fairways, but this course is not tight off the tees, and the course is fairly easy. loved the course and plan to go back eventhough it is 100 miles round-trip from my house. It is a GREAT value, and the attention to detail on the course, from the manicured tee boxes to the great greens, from the amazing vistas of lakes and forest, one GREAT PLACE TO PLAY!

GREAT COURSE

This is a great place to play, the fairways and tee boxes are mint.. The greens are slow, but tricky.. The only problem with the course as i could see was the greens. The players at this course do not fix there ball marks at all.. all your putts with bounce all the way to the hole, and as i said they are slow also.. so if you miss putts thats the reason why. But this is all and all a great course.. The members were all very nice , but the man you pay has no sense of humor at all.. The Kitchen staff was very nice also with low prices.. And have fun on 18 it is a bear of a hole...

Glen Oaks

This was a really nice course. They seem to keep it in very good condition. The fairways are really tight so be accurate from the tee.
The greens are also really nice.

Older, tight track

Young guns that "spray and pray" need not play here. You can leave your driver in the car and play for the fairway. It is a tight track that demands an accurate shot. Pure ballstrikers will score very well here. The greens didn't hold approach shots very well, but overall the condition of this course was above average. Not a bad deal for the money - at $40 on the weekends, including cart.
