Great course.

My wife and I, along with her brother and his wife played the Tanglewood Championship course on a nice comfortable Monday morning. The course plays to a par 70 and has four sets of tees with the tips being at 7,100 yards. There are also tees set up for 6,600 (blues) and 6,000 yards (whites). The course scorecard says the red tees are 5,100 yards, but they must have recently shortened them, because some of the red tee markers were placed much closer to the holes than what the scorecard said.

The course, which used to host a regular Seniors Tour event and hosted the PGA Championship in 1974, features lots and lots of bunkers, which makes playing this course a real challenge. Some of the holes have water in play. The course itself was in excellent condition. The greens, fairways and the approximately 100 bunkers were all in great shape.

The cost was very reasonable, especially by New York standards where yours truly lives. We paid $38 for a weekday round with cart.

Our foursome played in just over 4 hours. We had hardly any wait and the twosome behind us did not wait very long for us to clear. I understand though that this course gets busy on weekends and a round can take much longer.

The staff we encountered were quite friendly. The starter knew we were from out of town and when she found a yardage book somewhere on the course, she drove it over and gave it to us. That was very nice.

In summary - a great course at a nice price and a recommended play if you are in the Winston-Salem area.

Have played here the last two years. Great course. To me this is 5* ALL THE WAY if for no other reason than it is $17 to walk 18 or $28 to ride 18 after 3pm and this is a course where they once played a MAJOR. Requires length if you play from the tips and the ability to work the ball. Tons of sand most of which was in great shape and tricky greens. Speaking of the greens they could have been in better shape but to play a track that the likes of Nicklaus, Palmer, Trevino and Snead once played that is a muny that anyone can play I do not think it can be beat!!!

The tee boxes, fairways and grounds were in good shape. The greens were the worst I have ever played on. I don't know what happened to them, but we were shocked to say the least. The sand traps were also in poor condition. We drove 50 minutes expecting to play on a championship caliber course only to be disappointed.

Very nice public course, bit spendy on the weekend/holidays for the area but overall a very good value. Is busy quite most of the time but usually in better than average shape.

Challenging course, has a little bit of everything and playing from the tips will test you at spots. Length isn't a premium here but it can help you out at times... good sand play will come in handy if you can't control your shots fairly well.

Overall, I recommend it as a great value in the area. I tend to prefer the Reynolds Course as I think it plays a little tougher (and is quite a bit cheaper) but still worth your while.

Unfortunatly, like most muni courses, it gets worn out with to many people on it. Last round took just under six hours.

Beautiful!!! I play it every year on my way to Pinehurst and many times if I wer not on my way to play Mid South (formerly Pinehurst Plantation) I would stop and stay here instead of going on to Pinehurst. Love it!!

Great course that will test even the best of players. Over 100 bunkers guarding the greens and strategically placed along the fairways. Some par-4s will require a mid to long iron approach, but all holes are fair. Course is well-maintained. Bring your "A" game. Staff is nice and very helpful. Great 19th hole to boot. But the best part of this course is the price. Where else can you play on a course that has hosted a major championship for less than $50.00? It's the best bang-for-the-buck in the area!!

long and sandy, every green is well guarded by bunkers, if your approach is off target, get out your sand wedge. everything, including the 100 and some odd bunkers are well maintained, the greens hold the shot. everything you can ask for in a golf course plus some you didn't ask for. number 11 is a 467 yard par 4 from the middle back tees, if you can hit this green in regulation you should be buying the beers at the 19th hole.

Great Golf Course!

Prepare to be challenged... This course is long and covered with sand. Smart golfers will appreciate this course. Not many places you can get this caliber facility for this cheap.

Yes, what you have heard is correct

Perfect course to prove oneself. Former host to the Vantage Senior Tournament, reasonably priced, fairly long and narrow. Find your groove, stay inbounds, putt well and you're addicted!

Unbelievable Value!

For less than $40 you can play a former PGA Championship venue that is in top shape! Everything about this course was perfect. More golf course then anyone can handle, and conditions to match. Superb greens, fairways, tees, etc. This is probably one of the most challenging golf courses I have ever played. What a steal of a deal!!!

Great Value

Difficult but fair test of golf. Forgiving of errant shots, few lost balls and no houses to distract.
